absolutely ridiculous!

Just seen this, BECOME A HAIR EXTENSIONS SPECIALIST FREE TRAINING FOR UNEMPLOYED ETC in Belfast, Swansea | Hairdressing Services | Gumtree.com

Makes me think that there will soon be lots of professional extensionists in my area soon. Unable to cut or style no doubt!!
What are your thoughts on this?x

Ok im going to b the opposite here. I think if unemployed people can get financial help to train as an electrician or hgv vehicle which are predominently male jobs then i find that this is a good thing in a way. When i first read it i thought for gods sake. But... I must say that id rather someobe got some free training than sat on their bum doing nothing. So i say good luck to them. There is the chance they would be good and i think we shouls judge on an individual.basis. No scrap that. They didnt asked to be judged!

No i wouldnt. Ive only ever had two people cut my hair. One is dead. And your right it doesnt sound very classy but it MIGHT get a few people off the unemployed list. And its possible someone creative could make success

Its not free, we are all paying for this scheme through our taxes.

I would far rather a young hairdresser had the chance to get free training if they had shone throughout their NVQ.

I have gotten funding from charities to do my course. Im not ashamed by it, im a 18 with a child and wanted to better myself.
Albeit my course is nails not hairdressing, the amount they gave me was the equivalant of two months of my benefits and i will never be going back on them after im qualified.

Not everyones trying to screw the system, some people like me desparetly want to change their futures.

fully agree,
however, extensions are a hairdressing level 3 module. Pro hairdressers generally do not agree with non hair pro's doing ext courses. This is why hair pro's will be against this, not because its for people on benefits.

Ahh i see :)

Im assuming thats quiet high up along the quailification ladder then?

Have to agree here. Its kind of "skipping" past the rest. I do think some funding is good. Its usually means tested and therefore people who complain they get nothing is because they aren't classed as needing it. Before I get jumped on. I SAID CLASSED AS. I know its not always fair but then its a political matter...not a hair or beauty matter.

I had to jump through hoops to show that i was entitled eg no proper job, hubby cant work at the mo, kiddies, pregnancy, job seekers, housing benefit... The whole lot.

The only benefits i want are working tax credit and child tax credit.

I think it is silly though to offer such a high end quailification and no start at the bottom of it all.

Im not moaning about other people getting free education i just think everyone should get it x

I think it would be a whole lot fairer if everyone did get it hun.

Eceryone gets taxed from those working to those of benefits, why not use that money to make everyone better at whatever they want to be better at.

totally agree....it's unfair when most people work hard through their level 3 to learn this for it to be taught to non proffessionals!

Just replied to the ad - let's just say I told them what I thought...
To the lady that is in favor of this FREE scheme. I've not long finished my 12 months course that cost me £1700 plus kit at £300. I had to pay for my Daughter to go to nursery at £315 a month, it also cost money in fuel to drive 12 mile there and back. I love what I do, would do it all again in a heartbeat.
I was the only one on my course that paid myself, there was 42 to start and I'd said 12 finished. Of which half of that aren't even working in the industry, one lady in the group chose to do this course because it was "something to do" and when she finished this course she wanted to do health and social care, and before beauty she had previously done hairdressing at level 1. This absolutey infuriates me!!!
How can handing out FREE this FREE that, drive most people to have a good WORK ethic??
Yes, There is a small minority of things these funded courses that really do help people and turns out a success which is why I thing applicants should be vetted and only a small buget should be in place...

Sorry about the spelling mistakes, I'm rather angry!
Oh I would just like to add what was funded by the government to the others;
Course Fee
Kit
Nursery Fees
Expenses ....Yes, bloody expenses! (approx £100 per term)
