Hello - I am currently doing my level 2, and finding it hard to remember my facial movements especially the massge.

has anyone got any tips on how they remember all the movements? I have been watching the video clips we were given, by our course teacher but I still struggle.

Please help!

Thank you

It's practice that does it - break it up into small sections (i.e. those movements about the neck, those in the lower half of the face, those about the eyes etc), and learn these sections off pat, then put it into a whole working up/down the face as you've been shown. When learning new treatments/routines I often condense each move into a descriptive keyword (such as zig-zags, kneading to the masseter or similar) & then put them in order on cue cards for a quick reminder.

If you find it hard to get a model to practice on, then I found practicing the moves in the air, on a teddy bear or a polysterene head worked really well! I find it's more a case of muscle memory than mental memory with massage.

good idea. ..xxx e r k. effleurage rotaries knuckling... ttr ,twists, taps, rotaries, and so on....xxx hope this helps

Sorry but while this question is up....
The petal movement that you do around the chin/neck area and forehead - is it a quick movement or slow because 1 teacher tells me it is quick and another tells me it's slow.
I'm sure the purpose of the movement is to aid exfoliation so therefore it would be quick, what do you guys do?

if you mean tapotement.its quite quick light tapping to increase blood supply ( not used on sensitive skin..) xx

The way I remembered the movements was to break them up in to sections of 4 write them down and laminate it so you can have it sitting while you practice.

But as already said the only way it will go into your brain is practice practice practice!

Good luck

No sorry, it's a move where you make petal shapes with two fingers going across the front of the jaw line. You do it after knuckling over the pectorals and again on the forehead after doing frictions. Thanks though x

mmm seems slightly different to the way we were taught. but petrissage are rhythmically unhurried movements,, relaxing hard muscles x

Thank you everyone thats great advice, I am going to make up some little cards tonight with reminders on...I will also practise and keep practising.

It just seems there is so much to learn

As already mentioned it's mainly down to practice,it may be an idea for you to take a camcorder into your college and video the routine from start to finish rather than just seeing clips. This is what we did and it really helped.

Some people have problems with watching something then going away and doing it.We all have our own ways of remembering things.I would have a little word with your lecturer and tell her you are having problems, that is what she is there for.Believe me you are not alone.

Once you have watched the video, have your willing model lay down and practice, stop the video at various points to make sure you have got the movement correct, then move on,give it time and you will get there.Try not to stress too much, feel the movement,it wont matter if you forget a couple of movements or do them round the wrong way as long as your massage is continous and flowing and you cover all the muscles.

Remember once qualified you will not be doing this routine anyway,as most facials have their own set routine.Just let it flow and relax.Word association is excellent plus diagrams as mentioned next to each movement on your paperwork.Everything helps.

Good luck cherub:hug:
