Afternoon all.

I've been having a problem when sculpting with my forms when working on a client with naturally long nails. I have one client who has long nails but wants them longer still on top of her naturals but when i try and put the form on her natural c curve is so curved because of the length of her nail that i cannot get it to fit without a big gap.

I ended up just using tips which i hate!!!

My forms are the creative ones as i have been told by everyone they are the best.

Smaller nails i can get a fit no problem as the natural nail is flatter but this clients nails are just more curled in because of the length. They are about an inch maybe slightly longer.

where are you getting the gap?
is it underneath the natural tip. so there is a space between the tip and the form ?

Clip the nail shorter....
IMO, If your client is in for a new set of sculpts then that's what they should be....not overlays with a slight extention. That's just too much work, cause then you have so much more nail to prep.
In school and in training courses I have taken afterwards, I've always been told when sculpting make sure the natural nail is shortened. It makes sense, and it's easier to get your desired c-curve.

Customise your forms.
Where the oval area is, that you take out the sticker bit...you with me?
Trim the sides to make it more rectangle, so its more of a straight line that goes under her free edge, rather than an oval shape.
You will find they fit perfectly. If you are lost, I can upload a pic for you.

i have the same problem sometimes with my own nails so bought creative ones but i was told that part of the problem was because my nails were square.so she took the corners of and made more round which resulted in less curve (if that makes sense).good luck.hths.xx

Yeah the gap is between her nail tip and the form. I thought about dabbing a spot of clear nail varnish on the form and sort of sticking it to her nail to stop the gapping and then just removing the nail varnish with an orange stick later but thought that might come across as really unprofessional.

I was also told to shorten the natural nail when sculpting but this client was not willing to let me even file a millimetre of her natural nail never mind cut it. lol

If you have a pic of how i should customize my forms that would be great, i'm not really that great at knowing how to cut the form to fit different shaped nails i can normally get a good fit on most nails without cutting.

Hmmm that would be a good tutorial for someone form cutting for different sized and shaped nails.

Thanks folks x
