Full head of highlights tutorials-hair left out all blonde?

So a few tutorials I've watched, the hair which is left out of the foil is all blonde? I don't get why it would be, as you're weaving that out and not lightening it. Am I making sense, like the left out parts should be brown/natural if you've followed the guide from last time

I'm always watching for different sectioning patterns.

It's almost impossible pick out and follow any pattern 100%, especially if someone else did it. Its just old highlights left out that couldnt be picked up. It all blends in the end anyway x

You couldn't possibly pick out the old highlights and only lift those, that's the beauty of highlights they blend so well without picking out, after time tho the blonde will become quite solid looking at the mids & ends which is where your spatch would come in to break it back up again
