Gelish lifting

I did Gelish on my own nails which are quite damaged. I applied Gelish which lasted around 5 days before the the edges started lifting on a few nails.
I did forget to dry brush the foundation layer. I'm assuming this is the cause, but can anyone verify that for me?
What exactly is the purpose for dry brushing?

I never or very rarely dry brush the foundation layer and don't have any problems. Did you maybe get your layers to thick? That causes lifting and chips

I think you have answered your own question. If your nails are damaged then it will cause problems. Try using structure gel cx
