Hair geeks need your advice! Colour?

I've got medium length black hair and I'm getting my new extensions soon... I want something a bit different for my holiday but something trendy and smart. I know black is hard to work with but I have time to gradually do whatever to it... Any suggestions, highlights, colour flash etc? Anything other than ombré!
