I am hoping someone can help me. I have a lovely client who is a chef. Her hands are covered in terrible hard skin and very badly stained.

I have honestly never seen anything like the hard dry and cracked skin on her hands before.

She makes indian food and her hands are stained with the spices that she uses in the area that is very hard .

I have tried today to give her a through soak , exfoliate and a hand masque but the skin on her hands is still terrible as is the staining.

can anyone recommend something i can use to help ?

thank you!

Hi,
I think you should recommend her to use a mixture of salt and oil mixed, to exfoliate and moisturize her hands every night! In the long run she has to take better care of her hands herself. Maybe use gloves at work for at least a while?

I would think she needs some kind of chemical peel on her hands. She may need to see a dermatologist. I would think a paraffin wax treatment could help but it depends on the extent of the callouses. The callous peel patches may be an option too if the skin is really thick.

sorry weezie - no way put a chemical peel on those hands, especially if cracked skin. Obiously years of 'hard labour'. A rich emolient will help. I would recommend something like cutemol or betnovate which she can get on prescription from her GP. She can apply, wrap hands in cling film and sleep in it for added benefit.

If they are that bad and as you describe - this is certainly what she needs.

To remove the hard skin, I think you or she could use a soft (240 grit) file/buffer on dry skin. I do that to my heels and it really works. HTH! :)
