Hi, I've posted on this issue before but I just wondered if anyone could offer me any more advice on how to prevent clinets exceeding the recommended number of minutes for their skintype? I've got a few clients who seem help bent on getting cancer!

As this is a problem that you are facing with quite a few of your regulars i would be inclined to put up a notice in the salon stating that as a solarium owner you have certain rules and regulations to follow, set out by the sunbed association,
and would all clients please note that these rules are there for their benefit and protection,
therefore you are only able to allow them their recommended time on the beds,

I'm sure if you get in touch with the sunbed association they may have a poster with the guide lines that have to be followed that would reinforce your notice to the clients, hth

Hi, I just tell my clients that they are not able to go over thier recomended minutes. They are also only allowed to have 3 sun beds a week. If they question why, I tell them that sun beds are good for them as long as they use them in moderation. I also remind them that the possible link between uv exsposure and skin cancer is in relation to excessive exposure. I do get the ocasional client who gets cross but I tell them that its up to them if they go somewhere else. They are not overdoing in my salon.

To be fair, I have always used this approach and my clients respect that I am here to help them. We have a good reputation and I want to keep it. Hope this helps.

you can stipulate regulations and controls in your own salon by stating above, but you cannot regulate what clients do outside of your salon, so just cover yourself and regulate as necessary.

I regularly have clients asking for 20 mins on sunbed (!) and when I refuse they state they "have that up the road". So I tell them nicely to go up the road then, whilst explaining why they shouldn't. I might lose some business, but my conscience is still intact and my insurance is valid.

Some people will NOT listen - just look at any beach in the summer and observe total stupidity!

How about an electronic timer that switches the sun bed off after their recommended number of minutes?

How about an electronic timer that switches the sun bed off after their recommended number of minutes?
usually available through the sunbed manufacturer or place the timer outside the room, and set it your self...give them a set time to undress and then start the bed, when it goes off they can't reset it then, and most likely won't dress to come out and ask to start it again.

Hi everyone, thanks for your help. I have timers in place, the problem isn't so much physically preventing them from exceeding their minutes and more detering them from unhealthy practice. Thanks again
