try cleaning it with an old cotten towel (an old one) and some acetone on it , i dropped red nail polish on my cream carpet and the acetone worked a treat....
if its right on the surface you could try trimming the pile to remove the colour.
accetone should work on most fibres but it may melt others so i would give it a try in a hidden area first , otherwise you may end up with a bigger problem than you started with.
if it doesnt come off and you think your mum will murder you do what i used to in rented accomotation... nip away the evidence and go around the border of the room nipping off bits and carpet and carefully glue to the spot... voila!
Call in a professional carpet cleaner! Speaking as someone married to such a person - they have specific product removers especially for this. Ask for a spot clean!:hug:
