Help needed with white tips

Im doing gel nails and have been using white tips, but the edge of the white tip (nearest the side walls) I'm having difficulty with it. The gel is really thin there? I've read that you don't blend white tips so what do I do.. Do I put on a third layer of gel? Or do I file the white tips? Hope this makes sense!
