Ladies, I have a client that has short bob length hair and I applied 160 strands of 14" nano rings she paid £190. She has messaged me after a few days saying they are too tight. I said they do start off a little uncomfortable if you aren't used to extensions but give another few days and let me know if they have eased up. If not I can book an appointment in a weeks time for me to come and loosen them. She has then messaged me after a further 24 hours saying she has paid £80 at a hair dressers to remove them and the hairdresser said that she is actually got too many in her head (which I promise she doesn't!) she needed that many to blend out her style of hair cut! She has said that she wants a full refund or she will be going to a solicitor!! What do I do?? I don't usually issue refunds - I am qualified but not insured will anything serious happens if she goes to a solicitor!??? Help!!!!

You're not insured?!

Then you need to have a think about whether it'll be cheaper to just refund her, or take the chance that she takes you to court and wins and it costs you a lot more than the refund.

And obviously, get insurance asap for future.

In my country we have to view and try and resolve the situation. If they go elsewhere they have basically broken your obligation. Maybe it's the same for you?

Why aren't you insured? That's just so unprofessional.

Well my number 1 thing to say to you right now is.....please get insured.
And this client really did not give you the opportunity to fix the "problem"
BUT you're not insured right now. I would issue the refund because a court case would cost a hell of alot more

I would issue a full refund, take the loss and learn from this. If you had insurance it would be a different story.

Have a look at salon gold, I got my insurance for something like £48 for the year. That covers my full hairdressing Services and hair extensions.

Id recommend salon gold to ☺

I would say get insured, costs very little, however if ever needs to make a claim excess will probably be more than sometimes services offered,

Before insurances get involved there has to be a realistic claim.

But I wouldn't be bullied, she maybe just be trying it on, she never give you the option to resolve.

It would cost more for her to see a solicitor, she could try small claims but she has to prove that.

How do you know for sure she went to another hairdressers? If so are they qualified? do they specialise in that field,

Some people will try it on and mention going to see a solicitor.
, and people automatically panic.

I would stand my ground, get insured is a must though with whatever services you provide.

Its a natural reaction to worry if someone mentions solictors.

This happened to a colleague of mine, she had a nasty client who tried to say she done xyz and threating action, turns out the client in question done it on a regular basis to try and get free extensions.

my friend turned it round on her and said she would involve her solicitor for slander etc, the ex client soon crawled back into her hole and never heard anything more, She was so looking forward going to court and putting this ex client in her place,

She said she would notify all extensionists in area to avoid this customer,

Get insured, and don't be bullied I would stand my ground, if she happened to go towards small claims, most important thing is you defend you side Solictor wise probably wouldn't take it on, they have to prove you were negligent etc.

I used to work in court office many years ago and cases need to be proven, if you receive any legal action DONT ignore it

Bullying is bullying regardless of whether you're insured or not. You offered to resolve the problem for her and she decided not to take that offer. She is saying she will get a solicitor involved before she even knows your stand point on this? I would say no to a refund, if she returns the hair to you then you could refund her for that? Otherwise she has thrown away perfectly good hair which she must pay for! Cheek! You didn't see the hair so could be she just didn't like it, she didn't give u the chance to see.

It's a difficult situation because you're not insured.
The problem is, if she carried through her threat of going through the legal channels to persue a claim, you would essentially be up poop creek without a paddle, however, she may not carry through, which begs the question, is it a risk worth taking?
it's a difficult one, she had a removal done elsewhere after you had given her the opportunity to rectify the problem, plus, you only have her word that a qualified hairdresser (and qualified extensionist in the method you applied!) carried out a removal. In a normal instance with insurance, you would have the upper hand without question.
I'm with ABT, less than £40 per year which is quite cheap, so whatever decision you make, try and get insured asap as it protects you from people like this xxx
