Hi Ladies,

Can anyone recommend a good skin care brand that will actually work?

Im only 22 and for the last few months my skin has been constantly breaking out in spots at the sides of my chin and underneath my jawline. I cleanse, wash, tone and moisturise twice a day and do a gentle exfoliation once a week but nothing is helping and its getting me really down :( (im using garnier).
The spots are so painful under my skin and some dont even get heads and are just big raised red painful spots. I've also got big blackheads that are raised on my skin when im in the light.
I also get tight skin, before i moisturise my skin feels so tight and uncomfortable and i get flaky skin around my nose, cheeks and forehead. Its such a mixed thing but with make-up on you wouldnt think my skin looks bad (i cover it well!) i just find my skin so dull and lifeless and it never used to be like that. My skin was always glowing and healthy and i only suffered from the odd spot now its constant!

Any advice would be helpful. Ive been looking at the Liz Earle cleanse, tone and moisturise. Has anyone used this before and what do they think?

Sounds to me your not using the right products hun, or is there a certain time of the month it's happening?

The liz Earle range is great but maybe you should think about having a professional facial so the therapist can recommend the best products for your skin. Decleor is also a fantastic brand with products that work.

Hope that helps xx

I'm using garnier just now but ive used Elemis and other brands. I dont use the same brand normally just now i go with whats cheapes which i know wont help!
Ive been back from my holiday to Cyprus for 5 wks now. Over there my skin cleared up (sun obv) but once i got home its went wild. I think my TOM makes it worse. More than anything i think its my hormones. Ive been on the pill since i was 17 but on one of those face diagrams apparantly chin and jawline spots is hormonal. What can i do if its hormonal though, that means no products will work :(

i was having exactly the same problem then used liz earle cleanse and polish and alpha h liquid gold and now barely have any problems at all! i swear by them x

No it doesn't mean no products will work, it's just finding out what's right for your skin. Sounds like what you're using is too harsh, it's drying out your skin causing it to react by producing more oil, thus causing the spots. Abbie is right, a professional facial would be great so someone can properly assess your skin to recommend the right products. I use Eve Taylor myself and would recommend their Soothing range plus face oil no 1 to calm and protect your skin, switching to face oil no 3 when you're suffering breakouts, for instance during tom. Whatever product range you decide to go for though we all know keeping ourselves well hydrated, protected from the sun and eating well will all play a big part too.

Liz Earle are doing a September promotion of the 3 and there bigger sizes.

I think i want to go for the Liz Earle i watch QVC Beauty and its won the best cleanser award and has so many great reviews and the cleanser is for every skin type with the polish combined in it to remove dead skin cells. Its natural skincare too and i can have sensitive skin to scrubs or masks sometimes so it sounds good to me. Roll on payday, I just hope it works!

The Alpha H liquid gold ive heard of that on QVC what is it for?

I dont just suffer from breakouts TOM its constant just now :( and i can see more coming as i have blackheads that are getting bigger!

I drink water throughout the day at work (with the odd cuppa inbetween) and my diet is alright i wouldnt say its terrible as i dont have fast food hardly ever.

Maybe it is just the stuff im using isnt for me, its garnier but for dry skin.

If its really bad go to the doctor and ask to change your pill to one that is good for spots. I have endomitriosis and had terrible acne when it first started and now has all cleared up and luckily have no scars. Also I use eve Taylor facial skin are it is fantastic use oil no 3 and purifying range x

It is virtually impossible, and arguably unprofessional, to try to diagnose your skin condition without actually seeing it in the flesh.
Take yourself off to a qualified beauty therapist, preferably one who specialises in skin, and get them to have a look at it.

Hi Lynne I am a qualified Beauty Therapist myself and have tried different ranges of skincare. I always remove my makeup and wash my face etc and do this twice a day so its not that im leaving dirt and makeup on my skin. So im at a loss of what to do now apart from try another.

I had a breakout of bad acne up one side of my face when i was 17 due to a stressful job and the dr gave me dianet (sp) but because its so strong i had to come off it after a few months but this sorted my skin out and only until now i have never had a problem with my skin since.

Eve Taylor has been mentioned a lot on this site. Can you get samples to try? What do you use a face oil for?

Do you specialise in skin?
Ask yourself the following questions:

What medication do you take?
Do you wear sunscreen every single day of the year?
What do you eat?
Do you take alcohol/recreational drugs?
Do you have any allergies?
If you're reacting to your skincare, keep trying until you find one that doesn't make you react. If you go to a skincare specialist they should give you samples and offer a money back guarantee. I certainly do.

This is a generalisation I know, but big angry spots on the jawline tend to be hormone related, but one client of mine had them and when I probed deeply into her lifestyle I discovered that she allowed, nay encouraged, her working cocker spaniel to lick her face...

I dont specialise in skincare but i studied it as part of my course at college.
I dont take medication, i dont drink or take drugs, i dont wear sunscreen, my diet is fine (i dont eat a lot of fruit and veg but i dont eat greasy take aways either) and i dont have any allergies.
Just a thought with you mentioning the womans dog. I have a King Charles, he doesnt lick my face (i wouldnt let him) but i do give him cuddles and my skin comes in contact with him like his coat. I wonder if that could be making my skin come out in spots because obviously he will carry dirt like dogs do...

Ok, so the first thing to do is to start wearing sunscreen. Factor 30, every single day of the year.
2nd, wash your hands after cuddling your wooflie.
3rd, pm me your details and I will send you a sample pack of products to try.
4th, I'm fairly confident that what was covered in college is not in depth enough to equip most therapists to be expert in skincare.
There are some great books out there on skin analysis and treatment, and some great tools to assist you, like a woods lamp, hydration tester, etc.

liquid gold is a product that u put onto your skin with cotton wool every other night it contains glycolic acid and just makes my skin so much better i look forward to the nights that i use it as i know my skin will look so much even and better the next day.... i tried everything to try get rid of my spots when had them everyone used to say to me oh they are hormonal but then it got to a point where they were just awful all the time! both the cleanser and the liquid gold arent cheap but they last ages especially liquid gold i have been using it for a good few months at least and still have loads left so to me is well worth it! hth x

I remember seeing this on QVC now. I have went on the QVC website but there are quite a few different Liquid Gold products which one do you use? There is the choice of the day and night intensive liquid gold or just liquid gold? The liquid gold is in a plain white bottle and says its good for scarring which is what i need as i have lots of dark red marks where spots have been and they take months to fade. The day and night intensive ones are in gold bottles?

Firstly I totally agree that you should start wearing sunscreen! I wear factor 50 on my face everyday and can't believe how many people don't bother.
The liquid gold is a good product to try and also paulas choice sell some good daily aha and bha products that you might find helpful. I have bad blackheads on my nose and since using the salicylic products from paulas choice they have improved and my overall skin has improved. You can get samples of it from the website. If you want to know exactly which products I been using let me know and I'll pm you the details. :)

Hi I am a qualified beautician but I was also a skincare advisor at boots. If your after something from the shops I would highly recommend avene skin recovery cream. It's made with mineral water and used to be France's number 1 best selling skin cream. (don't no now a days coz I don't work at boots anymore£ I used to recommend the gel cleanser I can't remember the name of it now it was 3 years ago but any one like yourself I used to get coming in I used to always recommend it and they ALWAYS came back to buy more and say thank you coz it worked. I won't say it will get rid of your problem straight away but it will take the harshness away. I hope this helps :)

Also you can ask the skin care advisor and they will give you samples to try :)
