I am trying to get back into doing acrylic nails, need a little guidance... Basically at college I did an acrylic course but it only lasted a couple of days and I feel like only learnt the very basics. I learnt to do the white tips I used pure white acrylic starting from the tip off the nail, working to the matrix. However white tips don't seem that popular any more and everyone wants stiletto nails, so is the method the same? Do I start from the tip of the nail working down if I'm only using clear acrylic not white? Is the method different?

This is the same problem I had with my college course, they didn't do through things properly. I didn't feel confident at all.

I then went and done a acrylics conversion course with CND, and can honestly say what I leant in one day was do much more then I learnt in those few weeks at college. Worth every penny!

Then on from that just practice & practice!

I thought this was just me, I feel stupid for not knowing something so simple.. That might be worth me checking out! Thankyou.

The thing is no one is ever going to "learn" to become a nail technician in a couple of days..
How any course, college or educator think they can teach "everything" about nails including sanitation and anatomy in just a few days is beyond me. Acrylic,in my opinion ,is a skill that is mastered over time. The more you do the better you become.
Personally if i was you i would make sure i was fully competent in providing immaculate stunning BASIC acrylic nails before delving into something that is more advanced and specialist .
There is a lot of confusion over what one considers stiletto. Stiletto i do on myself BUT never have it requested from a client..not a true stiletto anyway. When they request a stiletto they are normally referring to a long "Almond" shape.
You can't really achieve a stiletto nail with tips..you need to sculpt.Just as you would a normal acrylic, square/oval nail. You would also need to reinforce your zone 2/stress area..a lot whilst still maintaining balance.
Hope this helps
xx

These are my stilettos i sculpted on myself...

Where is the apex meant to be on stilettos? When I've seen pics if always seems to be between zone 2 and 3

i find "working" easy..changing the twins bums and doing the washing up requires a bit more thought and time, lol

ps most stiletto sculpts don't tend to actually have a apex and are fairly flat BUT having said that your zone 2 needs to re reapplied thinly and repeatedly to ensure the stress area is strong enough to cope with the pressure on the free edge
