I just bought a used hand off ebay it is just the hand so I need to buy the nail beds, but it it important to get their primer also? Can I just not use primer or use an acid free primer? Thanks

i too have this hand and i never used their primer, although i had it i found it took forever to dry, so i just used my nsi primer it never affected the hand in any way at all.
they do recommend using only the materials like glue and primer specially designed for the trainer hand but i never had any issues.

hth:):):)

I never used primer on my training hand. Its a plastic hand afterall and isnt going to be doing the dishes, digging the garden or carrying the shopping. Its just a device to practice technique.

I would say to use a different adhesive too, the EN one takes absolutely ages to set. I used to have loads of trouble because my fingers would start aching holding the tip in place for so long.

Have fun, the nail trainer is really useful, i still use mine sometimes for trying new things xxxx

I wondered if I was missing something! :D

Why would you need primer on a plastic nail? For those using the Trainer to, um, train please remember that it will help you with product control, tip blending, structure, shape, smiles etc etc BUT there is no way it can help you with preparing the natural nail and avoiding any lifting issues!!!

This can ONLY be done on real people and every real person is different! Plus good maintenance is as important as application if you want to be successful. This can only be learnt on REAL people.

It a fantastic learning aid but please remember its limitations.

I think it was supposed to be so that you got used to going through the various steps in the right order, then you wouldnt forget them when it came to working on real people. But as you say, being a plastic hand, it doesnt really help much when you get onto working on actual real life people!!!!

Thats exactly why you do that on the nail trainer....and its same with everything else that people who arent using the trainer hand don't know, its all about doing what would happen to a real hand. Makes sense really doesnt it!! :D

I take it you haven't seen/used the trainer hand? its actually a very good tool to train on, for one it doesn't get bored when learning the trade as I imagine a lot of REAL people would as its taking ages when just starting out....you can do everything on the nail trainer that you can on a real hand, only the nail trainer will let you learn as long as you want which is a very good thing, for example, if I want, I can do this for 5 hours solid, you reckon a REAL person could let you?....:D

And why should it have limitations?? its learning exactly what any nail tech should learn. How we supposed to learn the the proper way otherwise?

Um!!! Oh yes I know and have used the trainer hand!! ;)

As I have already said it is a great learning aid.

Why would it have limitations???!!! Good grief! It is NOT a real hand with real nails on a REAL person! That is its limitations.

Enhancements need to be applied to a real nail on a real person. That person will go away, their nails will grow, they will have specific nail conditions, they will have a very personal life style.

Maintenance is central to a successful technician. A plastic hand (however useful at the beginning) will not assist with than one.

Go get your teeth filled by a dentist who has only worked on a plastic jaw then talk about 'limitations'!!

:DThanks all, I was mainly concerned that the acrylic might not adhere to the nail without the primer. Yes I wish there were someway the hand could let us know if our application would lead to lifting over time:sad:, but like we know we need a human hand to let us know that. I did post about a teaching vid as I need a good one if you can recommend one with really close angle at the cuticle. Thanks again

 Well i have completed an EN course, and i doubt after 6 months of sticking nails on the trainer hand, there is much you can tell me about it that i dont already know.

As mum says, there are limitations. Its nothing like working on a real person and it will not make up for real live practice on a pair of hands. As we said though, it is a wonderful thing for praticing technique.
