A big hello to everyone, my name is Nicole, I am not yet in the industry of hair & beauty but am looking to enrol on both courses later this year, I have a very keen interest in nail extensions and was wondering if you guys could help me out a little. I have been searching the internet for an acrylic nail course and have found quite a few but am afraid of being ripped of, can anyone refer me to a good company offering training courses, I am looking to spend no more than £350 really for just the one course and hopfully this will include a kit, I would also like a qualification at the end for me to be able to work in salons etc, I would much appreciate any help you could put my way, thank you. x

I would recommend that you stop penny pinching if you are serious about taking this on as a career and invest wisely in your training,
people that go on cheap training courses always end up having to retrain with good training providers and then this costs them 100s more pounds so it is not an economical idea to go down the cheap route,
i would advise contacting sweet squared for a CND training portfolio these provide the very best training and win awards year after year for the education that they provide,
so that speaks volumes,
and their products are some of the very best around too,
here is the number 0845 210 6060 hth

Thanks Louise I will take a look, didn't want to sound tight I just didn't want to spend too much on just a nail course as I have alot more things in mind too and considering most of them last 2-3 days thought it was alot of money to be earning but thanks for the info x

To be honest i have heard so many times on here about people who get bad training where they come away feeling they know nothing and have paid £300 plus....that isn't cheep when you consider what your getting...NOTHING

Then they end up paying out again for good training that actually doesn't cost all that more than they paid for the rubbish training.....so I would advise that you seek out the best training you can....anything else is false economy.

Pay out twice....(rubbish training followed by good training) or pay out once (good training)....hope this helps. x

Not sure what you mean by 'just a nail course' ... you should realise that nails is a profession in itself ... a stand alone profession and therefore not learned and applied quickly or cheaply (much as any other profession).

If you are thinking of doing nails as a convenient add on service to a bunch of others, then I would suggest that you don't do a course at all as you will not be able to compete with the true professionals who specialise in nail services and are very skillful at their art.

I can't begin to tell you just how many clients over the years have told me they would never even think of getting thier nails done by a person who did not specialise in nails.

My aim is to work in a salon of my own where I will be offering a nail service, as you know that could not run the business by its self and I will also be a full time hairdresser and beautician, I will be seeking a full qualification on the subject but devoted full time to the job, I doubt it very much as I have lots of other plans and goals to reach too, I always go to nail bars too to get my nails done as to be honest I hate paying out £35-40 to someone who is in it alone for them as they do not last that long before you are paying out again for them, I hope I have not come across rude but what I am trying to say is that the hairdressing and beautician side is going to run my salon and the nails are going to be part of it and with already thousands to pay out for I am looking for something NOT CHEAP just resonably priced.

Whilst respecting your opinon, I do not agree with it!

There are many many thousands of nail professionals who survive and VERY well on doing nails alone, just as there are many dedicated hair and beauty professionals.

MY experience of 25 years in the industry is that those who try to offer all treatments invariably do not do all those treatments equally well, which is why I always go to specialists in their field. It is for the same reason why I would not let a GP treat me for a specific illness ... I would always seek a specialist.

Nails done at a nail bar do not last any longer than nails done by a good professional and of course the added benefit of going to a caring professional will be healthy natural nails beneath your enhancements rather than damaged weakened nails. Finding an expert professional is the key challenge just like finding an expert for your hair.

The reason it is a challenge to find a real expert pro is because of all the many inadequate or just plain bad cheap training courses on offer that produce bad or cheap nail technicians, or because so many of the general public can buy nail prodcts from bad or uncaring distributors.

So my advice is to seek a reputable distributor/partner who will care about your success and training and help you succeed. Sweet Squared is such a partner/distributor 08452106060

I too am new to this industry and while i am focusing more on the beautician and massage side of things (course starts monday eeek!) i was thinking, ooooh should i do a CND course too? I probably will because i would like to have the qualification.

However i do agree with GEEG because i am of the opinion that if you want something like nails done, it would be good to go to a specialist in that area, rather than someone who is a jack-of-all-trade (not being rude, what i mean is someone with an average knowledge all round rather than an intensive knowledge of one specialist subject).

I went to to beautician recently to have my nails manicured (i have long strong natural nails so never get extensions, just a manicure and polish) and i was SO upset with the result. While this particular beautician is amazing at facials and massages, she was awful at manicures!
