Hello all,
I qualified in beauty a good few years ago, but i've not used hot/non-strip wax since!! I've decided to bite the bullet and have a play, and i've been growing my hair in preparation!

Do any of you use hot/non-strip wax for the legs? I was always taught that this method is too time consuming for larger areas, but I was wondering where you all stood on this? Is it best kept to smaller areas?

For those of you who do use it on the legs, how large are the strips you apply (Without strips...you know what I mean!). Do you work in long pieces, of say, 4 of 5 inches long, or in shorter pieces?

I seem to remember the word "patchwork" being used to describe how you could work on legs with hot wax; do any of you use this method?

Obviously I'm not going to be providing this for my clients just yet, but I want to have a go on myself and best mate before I make a decision whether or not to book on a course, and your help would be much appreciated! I don't want to waste the hair we do have on ineffective practise!!! :)

It would not be cost affective to use non strip wax on that area.
I do occasionally use non strip for small stubborn areas or on the knees but the rest of the leg I would use a strip wax.

Re cost effectiveness, obviously you do use more wax with this method, so I'm not sure I'd offer this every time over strip wax, but it would be nice to have the choice! Really i'm just after some advice for my practise sessions before I commit :)
Thankyou!

I would do long strips from under the knee to the ankle, the same as you would apply strip wax. The difference being that you must leave a gap, and then wax over the gaps after you're removed it.

It's not that much more expensive or time consuming.....To be honest, if you do it once, they'll want it every time as it's less painful that strip wax. Then, it would work out more expensive and time consuming in the long run. Very easy to do though and not sticky. xx

Thanks so much Kim, really helpful :)
I have found that the wax seems to be breaking when I try to pull it off... have I let it go too cold, or is it not thick enough? Or is my technique rubbish, do you think?!?
XX

How many strip are you applying before you start to remove?

I would apply one down the middle and one at each side....straight off, no stopping. Then remove, remove, remove. Then another two on the gaps.

What type of hot wax are you using? The wax that I use stays pliable so that helps. It doesn't become brittle. Talk be through how you apply it. xx

I did a guys upper thighs today with the non strip wax, as I was doing him a brazilian wax and I just continued with my non strip wax and did very thin 3inch wide strips in like bands around the upper thighs... it worked a treat, and it came as a pleasant surprise to my client he said (he has previously been used to strip wax on the thighs and said he didnt find that very comfortable at all).

I sometimes use the non strip down shins where the strip leaves behind short stubbly hairs on the odd one or two clients with very coarse hair. Like Kim said its very easy to do and there is no waiting around to let it set up if you apply it very thinly, just making sure you make a nice even strip and a good edge to flip.

It's so mush less traumatic for the client isn't it Jen! xxx

My sisters therapist only uses hot wax for everything she does. She's always been like this. I've been there several times over the years and she's very quick. Yes, you use a bit more wax but it's included in the price of the service. She puts in on in long strips similar to how Kim described. It's definately a gentler waxing experience. I do it on myself occassionally when I do my legs. Depends how I'm feeling, I might use strip wax or I might use hot wax.
