Hi there I have purchased my domain name and was looking at vista print websites as they match all of my business cards etc but when I went on to it to start setting up it has @vpwebs.co.uk on the end can you only add your own domain on the more expensive ones? the one I was looking at to start off was the £2.99 per month one. Also do I have to buy an email address with my domain name or can they be forwarded to my personal one and if I did use my personal email would any emails I send out be with my email address on or with my domain name on? Sorry for all the questions but I am illiterate when it comes to things like this. Thanks XX

I have had a vista print website and now have a custom built one and I have to say that you will not get an all singing and dancing website with Vista. They are template websites which means that search engines do not like them and you run the risk of some other business having the same design as you. That goes for the business cards, logos etc.

I had one of the premium websites with Vista but this did not come with an email address. One of the best and cheapest ways to get around this is to just open a hotmail/yahoo account and register your username as your business name, for example:

[email protected]

Or something along those lines.

I hope that helps!

You can buy a domain name from 123-reg.co.uk for less than £7 for a .co.uk one for 2 years.

Then it's a question of:

(1) Configuring DNS (Domain Name Service) settings to point to the IP (Internet Protocol) address of the server that is hosting your website. DNS works like a phone directory for websites - matching domain names to servers just like a phone directory matches people's names and addresses with phone numbers. You would do this from within the 123-reg control panel.

(2) Making sure that the web server is set up to host a website for that domain name. Normally, web servers use a technique called "virtual hosting" where you can host many websites from the same IP address - and the web server determines which website to display based on the "host" header sent with the HTTP request from your web browser.

Have you got many links into your website, e.g. from FreeIndex, Hotfrog, Gumtree etc? Google probably won't find your website if no-one links to it. So that is the first thing I would suggest doing.

You could also try adding a text link to your site to your signature on Geek. Then it would be present in every post you make on the site.
