How long after paying for insurance are you insured?

I've just made my website and trying to slowly get my name out there and get bookings, however, I haven't got insurance (don't shout at me I know I need it hear me out! lol) I would make sure I have it before my first client but I'm going to get it when I get a booking. I don't want to pay for it now if nobody is going to book in for another 2-3 months. My question is, when I pay for it am I insured straight away like car insurance or is it different? xx

I done mine to start the next day then it runs for a year-like car insurance.
If you can't set a start date just do it that day and in sure it will go from the moment you pay x
