How often do you do a fresh set of extensions?

Hi,just wanted to know for several reasons after clients asking whats the procedure, when you put a set of extensions on,when the natural nail has grown to the length of the extension,do you remove ,cut the nail down ,start again ,or just keep on carring on doing overlays,or carry on doing overlays and soak of every so often?

I use Bio Sculpture and I know you are supposed to soak it off after every other infill, but I dont remember being told this when applying acrylic. And also clients have said in the past their old nail techs cut their natural nail down and started again when its grown to the length of the extension. But then I cant see the point of offering overlays then?

I would do overlays after a certain length, I know some people do prefer to wear enhancements tho, I used to be one of them, once my nails grew the same length as my enhancement I had the nail cut. I have 3 clients now who are aiming for overlays and get very excited when they see how there real nail is growing underneath lol.. x

Hi, you dont need to soak of acrylic extensions (unless you feel it necessary due to a breakage etc)
You would apply the acrylic as an extension and continue infills.
Once the natural nail is the length of the extension it becomes a natural nail overlay and you continue in the same fashion, but trimming the nail at each infill otherwise the nail will become too long.
Everybody is different, some will prefer to cut their natural nail once grown to enhancement length and some will be happy with their natural nail and change to overlays instead of extensions.

I just keep infilling them till its a NNO (natural nail overlay)....I have clients who had their first tip and overlay nearly 4 years ago and been having infill's ever since.

There is no way i would cut off their lovely long natural nails and re-tip them....and there would be no point...the tip is to give length and to stop the product falling on the floor...with natural nails you already have both of these.

The only client i start again with every few months is a lady i have with very bad hook nails...her nails will grow the way they naturally want to so NNO is a no go and i re-tip her nails as soon as the hook starts to show again.

Thanks geeks, exactly what I thought, would seem such a shame to cut the natural nail after growing it long.

thats what i thought too - im trying to get all my clients to NNO, and ive got about half of them there. xx

This is what i do. I just rebalance P&W's and the natural nail becomes the foundation like the form was when I first started with them. I never had a problem with this other than 1 person who says her nails hurt after they have grown a bit as they curl underneath.

i think it also depends on the client.... the only time i take off the nails and start again is if the refills that have previously been done have been done poorly... or if they want to go from short to long without the waiting for them to grow period... which i tend to do with myself....

as for the natural nail underneath that is up to the client i have some clients that make a point in telling me they like the look of it there and for me to keep it there (as i use a drill i can drill away the nail underneath if it is lifting away from the acrylic or is dirty from day to day life) if they want the nail still there i just clean it up but if it is lifting away or they dont want it then i will drill it down a bit...

i think its upto the client and what her personal preference is... i think i have only soaked off one set of nails and put a full set on and that was cause the clients acrylic were in such a bad shape that no matter what i did they would still look bad... so start again lol....

Same here, I also have a few clients with hooked nails and on those I tend to keep tips on, especially the index fingers for some reason! So for instance she wears NNO on 8 fingers and tips on 2. I also have a few clients that wear glitter alot, so for them I tend to use clear tips. Otherwise I would say NNO all the way - its alot easier for the nail tech!

on clients, except rare cases like Bagpus mentionned, NNO all the way, at least, that's the idea.

some don't want to see their natural nail underneath, so I file it off (with my e-file)

and on me, I keep my NN the length and shape of the nail bed extension.
