i had a client the other day with a very prominent ski slope nail on her thumb... i work with calgel and built with my clear gel to reduce the slope but if i had used enough to build it into i c-curve it would have looked ridiculously bulky and thick from a side view... i was wondering if any of you had any hints, tips and advice on how to disguise it better? thanks so much xxx

Hi, I would remove ALL of the free edge and tip that nail...this will temporally make the nail look "normal"...after a few infills the nail will start to grow to its natural ski slope self again and so i would remove and and re-tip again.

HTH

I remove these kind of nails aswell and use a tip and after 2 infills i cut the tip off and re tip. These nails dont look nice and you will get a much better shape from using a tip. I found that if i didn't retip after 2 infills, the client suffered terrible lifting half way down zone 3.

thanks so much for that great advice and simple solution bagpuss! bloomin' embarrassed i didn't think of it sooner! was just so caught up in the whole "natural nail overlay" thingy i blinded myself! you're a star! :Look_righseemples! :Look_left:Dxxx

you're a star too karen! :) xxx

LOL thanks! :D

I too got caught up with the natural nail thing, thinking they were better than tipped nails at the beginning. But i have soon learned that some people dont have nice natural nail shapes, so from now on i am soaking off the odd one during a rebalance and for the ones who have all 10 nails not so perfectly shaped, im going to advise a soak off and new set and charge accordingly.... unless they are happy with thier odd nail shapes.
