I was thinking of going for hypnotherapy for my 'problems' !!!

I want to lose weight...I know how to and have done so before...

But I feel my problems with weight are a little more than just eating the right foods... I don't particularly eat so bad...but I have some other issues that I think are hindering any chance of losing weight...

Another issue is I have compulsive addictions ( not smoking/drugs etc ) that I need to deal with .... I will have no hair soon if I don't sort it out

I saw an advert for a hypnotherapist who has a clinic here in my town...I checked out his website too...and he also claims he can cure a smoker in one session...!!!!
Now that is a pretty big claim...so I was thinking of booking a free initial consultation with him...

But first I was wondering if anyone had any positive results from hypnotherapy....Or will I be wasting my money?

Thanks xxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Jo

I have had hypnotherapy with good results, however, I know people who have had it for weight loss and smoking and it didn't make one iota of difference. My suggestion would be to check out the therapists credentials, I would go for someone experienced and someone who specialises in the area you're interested in. I think for weight loss, it's all about changing your relationship with food.

Just for interest, this is the lady I went to CREDENTIALS - Changes 4 Life - Hypnotherapy - Reading, Berkshire

I'm not sure exactly what membership of associations actually means, as of course for us, it's pretty much a payment of an annual fee, but maybe you can get more information about credentials from the National Council of Hypnotherapy :)

Hi Jo,
once you have checked out their credentials and given the problems you seem to have it would certainly seem you have more to gain than to loose by giving it a go:hug:

I gave up smoking after many previouse attempts after one visit to a hypno guy ....might not have worked for me but for £25 it was worth a try and has certainly paid me back time and time again:hug:

I did give up smoking from hypnotherapy....but started again ONLY cos my hubby was smoking.....i could have gone back after 6 months and got another session free...but i never......go for it twiny xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks ZoZo and Collin....

I am not sure if it would work for Spain...there doesn't seem to be much regulation out here for anything...

This is the guy I am on about...not sure if I am allowed to put it here...I am sure a Mod will help me out by deleting it if not

Hypnotherapy In Spain

What do you think?

I appreciate your advice too SJ thank you xxxx

I think first and foremost you have to go in there, if you go, with a positive mental attitude, you must want to give up smoking and lose weight.
My Mum had 4 sessions to try and give up smoking but she ddint give up because she just didnt want to.

You cant go in their thinking you will come out and not want another ciggie or another cream bun ever, just take baby steps, but the first move is yours. Willpower is the key, imho, and if youve got that, then go for it Jo!!!!

A client of mine swears by the Paul Mckenna cd's, she listens to them at night, in the car, at work, everywhere, I think shes so busy listening, she forgets to eat and is consequently losing weight!!! (that was a joke btw!!)

Good luck though xxxxxx

I have had it for issues with great results.

It doesn't work for everyone, as everyone has a different mindset and some people just can't seem to get into the relaxing enough for it to be effective.

It's definitely worth a go. Just make sure you find somebody with a lot of experience and knowledge, not just someone who learnt hypnotherapy through the mail!

I have used hypnotherapy a few times in my life, i had clinical depression as a child and nothing worked to cure it until my mum made me try hynotherapy which immediately lifted the darkness.

A few years later another dose of hypnotherapy cured my lack of confidence and had me jibbering away to all and sundry again.

It is so strange getting the therapy at the time but amazing when he explained it at the end. At one point he said i was to imagine walking into an empty room with an incomplete jigsaw on the floor, then i was to build the jigsaw and tell him what the picture was, mine was a child crying on a beach all alone, he told me i was to jump into the picture and hug the child till she stopped crying and help her find her family & friends again.

Afterwards he explained what the connection was to me and said that by doing this i had been hugging myself and helping myself through the bad times etc, I don't explain it well but it was helpfull.

It's really weird but it totally worked for me.

I say give it a go you'd be surprised how fast it is at curing problems

Good Luck x

my mil is a heavy smoker and she had 1 session of hynotherapy and iot stopped her smoking , granted she started about 2 yrs later but it did work for her , lol x

Hiya!

Just thought I'd quickly jump in on this one because I am a qualified clinical hypnotherapist.

Regulations - Not sure about the set up in Spain, but in the UK there are no regulations in place for Hypnotherapy (but I believe they are trying to bring this in). It's shocking, but this basically means that at the moment any tom, **** or harry can set themselves up as a hypnotherapist with little or no experience whatsoever. The best way I can think of to check their professionalism is to find out who they have trained with (google the trainer and see what sort of course they have been on), check for insurance, like everything else it is hard to get insurance without some form of qualification. The associations generally mean you have to have some sort of qualification to join also.

Basically do as much research as you can and hopefully you wont pick a charlaton (however you spell it!!)... I trained at the BST Foundation in London (here's their website) Hypnosis Course and Hypnotherapy Courses, London UK Training - BST Foundation. You can see we were taught by extremely qualified Dr's, Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists, this will give you some idea of the training you would probably want your hypnotherapist to have had :0)

Will it work for you? I have yet to meet someone I cannot hypnotise, And as far as I am aware I have a 100% success rate at Smoking Cessation (within two sessions).

The main thing you need to remember is, that ultimately any changes you make are down to you... Hypnotherapists can help you enforce the changes you want to make, but you still need to use your will power... Unfortunately we can't make people do whatever we say, if we could we'd all be rich and retired by now!!

Any questions, feel free to ask me :0)

Thank you for all the replies.....

Also thank you JuJu that was helpful information and I shall find out as much as I can. Like you say...it is difficult here in Spain to find these things out...but I will do my utmost to try...!! XXXXXXXX

Just as a little footnote... I don't smoke  I just eat food and pull out my hair

I received an email from the hypnotherapist in my earlier link asking me to go for a free consultation...so as soon as I can make sure he is legit....then I am going to go and see what he has to say....

I have willpower...I just need help in pushing the button!!!!

Hi Mercedes

No worries, you are most welcome... I took a look at your guy's website and the speel does seem good. I am a little surprised about his willingness to treat Anorexia Nervosa, but I guess different therapists feel differently about treating certain conditions. The thread from Pink Potions with regard to have been treated by a hypnotherapist for clinical depression also scares me as in my opinion this should never be attempted, I'm glad it worked out for her, but I've always been taught that is a big no no to treat!

However, Hypnotherapy should work very well with Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling), and can also work wonders with respect to relationships with food. You sound like the ideal client as you seem open minded and ready to make the positive changes.

Good luck and let me know how you get on

J Xx

Thanks JuJu....

I shall let you know how I get on certainly...

In the reply I got from Mark he said trichotillomania worked well with pure hyno-analysis ( I think that was what he called it ) .

A lot of my problems are psychological and I think he mentions psycho-analysis aswell...

I just want an alternative to tablets....as I am terrible at taking them ( 5 children....I am not a good pill taker  ) and I know I have depression which in turn is leading to my weight problems due to lack of motivation which is in turn leading to my tricho....

I am open to anything that will give me that nudge forward xxxxxxxx

I know you'll do just fine...

And it will be wonderful for you to be able to take a natural and permanent remedy, one of the great things with hypno is that it is more of a brief therapy, a few sessions should do the trick, you wont be going there forever...

From what you have posted so far I'd say you are most of the way there already, like you say it's just that little nudge to kick start you into full gear :0)

All I would say is (and I'm sure that he will say the same too if he is worth his salt) Don't stop taking any medication you are on until your GP says that it is safe to do so, no matter how well the hypno goes it is important to reduce or stop medication only under the direction of your G.P. No hypnotherapist (regardless of what experience they have) should say otherwise

Hypnotherapy can be a great tool. It helped me quit a three pack a day smoking habit. I desperately wanted to quit. That is the key! I have not smoked since Oct. 28, 1991. Having said that...

...losing weight is a whole other thing. You are correct when you say; But I feel my problems with weight are a little more than just eating the right foods...

I believe you can be successful losing weight with hypnotherapy but it does take more commitment, IMO. With smoking, you just never smoke again. With eating, you have to constantly make choices (you can't just not eat). For me personally, that's where the challenges come in.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck. :)
