I need help with IBD Soak Off! I can't seem to get a very good shape. The instructions don't say anything about using the builder gel for the colour polish overlays but wondering if it would give a better shape. It also seems to be lifting quite easily at the free edge even though I cap every coat. Can anyone advise best application.

Also having a nightmare with UV sealants on them. Tried Glaze N Go and Intense Seal and both aren't covering the free edge properly even though I capped them and both are dulling and cracking! Tried filing and buffing and straight on top of finished gel.

Even thinking it maybe my lamp, is anyone else having problems?

Have you phoned ibd for help? I'm sure they would be the best person to speak to for this.
I do use ibd soak off and I would not suggest glaze n go because the gel is to flexible.
I do used the clear builder to build shape and then colour gel on top in 3 thin layers to build up the colour.
Are you using the bonder gel? (dab it to remove shine before curing 1 min)
hope that helps but do phone ibd.

Yes I use dehydrater and bonder. Maybe they won't lift if I use the builder gel. Do you use Intense Seal and how do you put that on. Do you leave the sticky layer on or file the finished gel. Have you had any problems with it.

Thanks for your advice though. I will ring IBD.

Hi Hayley, how did you get on with phoning ibd did they help you at all?

I do not use any sealer over the gel just finish with the clear gel.

you can put polish gel over soak off if the nails are not too long. Soak off will flex more than the polish gel and this could cause the polish gel to crack on the nail.

I have used soak off with buff off gel over the top for colour before, it does the job but it would have to be a strong colour so you could get away with only one coat possible two coats of the colour or you will be in for cracking.

All ibd gels seem to allow you to put it on in very thin coats and cure for 30 seconds until the final coat which is 3 mins cure. This should help to stop the shrinkage from the free edge.

Yes i got in touch with IBD they said to try the ultra seal and the intense seal. I tried intense seal and that cracked just the same. so I've just stuck to using a normal top coat since. I know now to give the colours a really good stir and they are going on alot better so I'm quite happy with it now. I was just trying to find out of anyone if i could use the normal IBD colour gels over the soak off. Just so I can get access to more colours, they've just bought out a "tropical" range which looks really nice, and is popular this summer, plus they are alot cheaper! Just worried about trying them on clients and the cracking thing happening again, it was a nightmare before!!
xx

If intense seal is still cracking, try to work it more thin and cure it briefer. The problem with this sort of highgloss gels is that they are very hard and inflexible, thats why they crack easily.

Hi,

Just thought i'd let you know I have found THE topcoat for ibd. NSI - Perma Gloss works amazingly! I'm getting more used to the gel and I can get the colours deeper but still not as deep as I'd like unfortunately. I've applied a coloured hard gel over the clear soak off on my own nails today so I'll have to see how they go.

Speak soon

I too have had a few teething issues with soak off IBD gel..
I found that the colours were alot thinner than the normal IBD colours. they dont cover as well and mine also chipped from free edge... the normal ones do not do this.
I would not buy them again.
Good luck and let us know how you went

Hi, i had a few teething problems with the soak off gell to but i think i have it down pat now. I don't use any dehydrator or bonder, after attaching the tip, i wipe clean with a dry nail wipe, i apply a very thin layer of the builder gel in a swirl motion, almost like im rubbing it into the nail, i flash cure for 30sec then apply another thin layer to smooth it over and flash cure again. i then apply 2 thin coats of color gel, first curing for 30 sec then the second coat for 3 min. finally i attach and stickers or glitter (without clensing) and then apply a thin layer of the clear gel and cure for 3 min. this may seem like a lot of coats but aslong as you make the coats thin it doesn't bulk up the nail. if need be, you can leave out the second coat of builder gel. the most important part is the very first coat, you have to work it into the nail to avoid the lifing. it works will all the gel products i use. I hope this helps
