I work full time as an admin manager but want to build up a clientle so I can quit my job and do nails full time. Anyway, my girlfriend arranged for me to go into her work and do some sets of nails. I was nervous and excited at the same time cos they were my first real clients as everyone else I know and never charged them as I was practising.

Anyway to cut a long story short I did four sets and none of them are happy. I wont get their business again. Their nails fell off and one lady I did a gel set to said her nails broke and her nails never break.

I feel like a loser and I'm quite embarassed. I only charged $35 for full sets with gel overlay and for the gel set i charged $35 australian dollars also.

Do I give up or what? I feel like the training I got was absolute crap and a waste of my much needed money. I wish I had known about the creative courses..

Anyway thats my story:cry:

I am going through that stage for myself at the moment, but dont give up, you have to get straight back into it and practice practice practice!! Look at it on the bright side, you know they were not happy and why, so now you have something to work on instead of not knowing why they never came back to you.

hiya,

don't feel too bad. Nails don't just fall off unless something has been missed in the prep or if the client is on some sort medication that can affect the bonding process of the enhancments.
So it could be that they just bit them off themselves and because you are new felt that they could pull the wool over your eyes and actually took them off themselves by chewing, picking n biting.
Think back over what sort of prep you did with each client and see if you did anything different than you usually would. Being so nervous you may have accidentally left out a step in your prep. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Cheers

Don't give up it is part of the learning process. You must practice, practice practice. I'm sure the ladies understand you are new to this and this is reflected in the price. You could call the people you trained with for advice?

Hth's and carry on practising, you'll get there in the end!

Keep practising, don't let it get you down, stick with it. The more you do something the more relaxed you will become, and get better. Don't give up hun.

Yep its all been said already - (but wanted to add my support).

I thought I was crap at nails (did my bosses in the first few months - and they "all came off" - I felt like a failure - but I wouldn`t give up and practiced - practiced - practiced (still do!!).

Put it behind you - (you can`t change whats happened) and chalk it up on the experience board.

Hope your feeling more confident soon (and don`t be too hard on yourself)

We`ve ALL been there hun!!

Hi there, listen we've all been there. I've been doing nails now for just over four years and its only in the past couple of years that I've felt like I'm doing it right! Practice is absolutely key. I had a couple of loyal friends who stuck with me through good and bad jobs but what really helped me was a one day refresher coarse with a Creative rep just one on one to troubleshoot, can honestly say it did wonders in helping me iron out problems. Also try contacting anyone local who you feel does great nails and ask them if you can sit with them and watch what they do a couple of times (possibly on a saturday cause you work). I work in an awsome nailbar and we welcome any new techs to do that, it also shows that you are keen and who knows may even lead to a job. Keep in there hun, it does get better.

good luck

Same as everyone else but had to write. Just coming thorugh to "the otherside" now and I am starting to enjoy nails and starting to get some money!!
I have had some terrible times and sleepless nights, but if everone else can do it, you can too
xxxx

I agree with Trace I have been doing nails and practising, practsising, practsising. They are now getting to a standard that I feel happy with being able to offer to clients. Keep going dont give up.:green:

Don,t give up. If you love what you do then you will eventually improve.
Practice, Practice, practice untill you can't practice any more, then PRACTICE some more. If your finances allow, it might be worth investing in a Creative induction coure.
The thing i find, is that when people know you are new they inspect everything you do, they can't wait to find fault. Also, if you can act confident, eventually you will be confident. People can smell fear.
Keep at it, and PRACTICE your socks off. Its the only way.

Print of the tutorials on here, and read as much as you can. I recomend Nail Class by Gigi Rouse, great read and handy referral book. Good luck.

How true is that!!!! - I think thats just what my boss did!!!

I feel exactly the same, have only done my daughter's and a friends daughter and the next day off they pop - I am using NSI gel. I know my prep is good though so don't know why this is happening.

I practice on my nail trianer all the time when I haven't got clients but because it isn't a live person they don't pop off!!! LOL

Aother thing you could do is - advertise for models. You could maybe charge for cost of product, £5.00, or do it free. When you practice on the nail trainer you are still using your products, incurring a cost. You can't beat working on live hands.

Go through the the normal process of getting them to fill in a client record card, this way you will have their details and contact number. Ask them to note down how they look after them and any problems they have so that they can give you feed back on their return. (You must make this a condition of the getting their nails done free). Book a follow up appointment in 1 week to discuss and perform a rebalance - another practice opportunity! Have a good look at how their nails are doing, do a rebalance and book a final free appointment to see how they are. It might be a good idea to limit the number of models.

It worked for me, some of my models come back to me and pay full price, they have also recomended me to friends. Lengthy process, i know, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

don't be embarrassed. you are learning. how can you be expected to be absoluetly wonderful? we all have bad days and sometimes we have great days. keep practising, don't give up. i practise all the time!! sometimjes i'll finsih on a fri and practise all sat and sun if there is something i really want to get right. the other week it was glitter blends and now i have cracked it. it just takes work. stick at it. all you can do is apologise.

keep at it, you can do it. xx

Don't give up!! I have been doing nails on the side since 2004 and I still feel no where near confident. Keep on truckin' honey- you can do it. I have discovered over the last while doing nail enhancements is a skill and it takes a LONG time to master. The price you gave a set of nails to those ladies seems pretty cheap to me and they should not be complaining, your time and product costs money! Just two nights ago I did a set of nails on a woman and I worried myself all night about whether or not any problems would arise as she works nights at the casino and sure enough she broke one mucking chips (what ever that means). I repaired it for her and I will probably worry again. I let everone know up front that it will take me 11/2-2hours to complete a set and that I am new to the trade. I only charge $40.00 for now and all the women in my town who are known for doing a set of nails quickly to perfection charge anywhere from $80.00-120.00 if clients want they can book an appointment in 3months with them (that's how long it will take to get in). As another experienced women said on another chat group, "we have all had to pay our dues now its your turn, don't expect to make any real money for at least 4years." Good luck in the future practice practice practice!!

Me too! don't worry it will all be fogetton in a coulple of months my regular clients now bring me in bottles of wine to show they are very happy with my services. Its great. Seems to me like the bad times all come in one week focus on getting better because you will. practice practice practice. Good luck and stick with it xxx

I'm kinda in the same sit as u... still practising and practising etc and still always having problems. Like its already been said, at least we know what the probs are and we can keep working at them to get them right!!!
It can be so frustrating I know, but hey it would be boring if it was just a piece of cake!!!! lol
I hope all goes ok xx

I just want to thank each and every one of you for your kind words and support. Its great to hear that I'm not alone and some people are at my level and many of you have moved on and perfected the process which is inspirational.

I do know where I went wrong. I applied french tips and didnt use much product over the actual free edge, they were very thin, which is silly I know and because I was so nervous I used those tips in cases where I shouldnt have, I should have done my own smile line. Anyway I was very down but you all have made me feel so much better!!

I am going to source some models out and not charge them. I am going to keep the cost of my services at $35 until I build up a clientle and also gain confidence and my own sense of perfection.

I want to use up the products given to me in my start up kit (i.b.d) and purchase creative range. I already purchased the whole BRISA gel range and lamp as these were not provided in my kit. (Anything I buy I always want CREATIVE)

I find the distributors here in Brisbane are not very pro creative. This annoys me as when I go in for help to buy something they say: "oh forget the creative they are so over priced ) etc. I didnt listen to them with my Gel kit or lamp though so I am very pleased.

Anyway thanks all, I will let you know how I go and also I will be reading up on the tutorials.

hi there. I hope you feel better soon, i am in exactly the same place you are at the moment. I have only been doin nails since september and i feel like every set i have done i havent been happy with. Today i have done a set on myself and felt like crying because they wernt good and i spent ages on them! I really felt bad......till i came on here. I have relised i am not the only person going through this phase, so people i want to thank you all for giving this support, you're all stars! keep going at it, and we will reach those good set of nails! xx
