As I said above I am very select with my treatments I offer. I work mobile and my menu is:facial waxing (other waxing only upon request)
Massage (Swedish, hot stone etc)
Tinting
Hand and foot skin and nail rehab (no nail polish etc)
Spray tanning

Do you think this is enough? I'm nvq3 qualified but I don't want to offer more but very soon I will be going from part time to full time xx

I would def offer nail varnish with manicures and pedicures. x

I think you are definitely cutting a lot of potential clients. What if someone wanted a manicure but wanted a polish too? They would just go somewhere else. We all have treatments that we like to do and ones we don't. I think in this industry with new things coming out all the time you need to offer a lot more. Even if you trained in body wraps and could include a massage with it or facial and from polishes to gel/power polish.

I say stick to what you like doing and enjoy as long as it makes you money. If your missing out on clients because they prefer something else then let them go else where. My beauty course trained me in everything and I also only offer the things I prefer to offer. For example- I hated st tropez the old fashioned rub on method, so I took up spray tanning instead. I also don't offer pedicures unless requested by someone who is already a regular.
If you start offering everything your trained i and don't feel 100% confident then chances are your lack of enthusiasm will show.
Stick to your guns and focus on what is currently keeping you going.

I agree, you only live once so spend it being happy :) not dreading doing treatments you don't like!

Do you genuinely dislike them though or are you just not confident in them? If its the latter, could you practice on your friends then start to offer these to clients in the future? Xx

I always say stick to passion, but try not to alienate people, what if a regular nail rehab client was going to a fancy night and wanted their nails painted, would you let them go to a competitor and risk the chance of them not coming back? Xoxo

That was exactly my thoughts. I totally understand that if you genuinely don't enjoy a service and you can afford to remove it then that's fair enough but to stipulate only facial waxing and no polish for nails too..?

Personally, No. I don't think it is enough for a Beauty Therapist. If you are advertising as a mobile BT, I think clients would expect more treatments offered.
If you was a Massage Therapist, just advertising as that, just specialising in one area, then yes completely fine.
I think only you can answer this question,
If you are fully booked every day as part time & can be as full time too, have happy clients who aren't asking for other treatments, then stick with what you do.
If you are quiet, loosing clients to BT's offering a wide range of treatments, then that's different.
Why are you so selective with treatments?
Adding something like Shellac or Gelish would be great or/& intimate waxing xx

What exactly is skin and nail rehab? Forgive my ignorance. I also don't think your offering enough. I would at the very least add nail varnish. Or maybe increase the types of massage you do, deep tissue, pregnancy maybe.

Its a tricky one.....

If you work for yourself, you are in the lucky position to be able to choose what you would like to offer. However we are in a service industry, and we must try to provide everything within our competency that clients require. It makes your business diverse and therefore more profitable, and more likely to withstand tough economic conditions.

From a client perspective, if I want to go to a salon for several treatments (say waxing, facial and enhancements), I would prefer to go to somebody who can service all these needs than visit several different salons. It is simply more convenient. Also, with the sometimes intimate nature of what we do, we build up a rapport and a sense of trust with our clients, and I know I would prefer to have one good therapist who can service all my requirements, than run between several salons seeing different therapists each time.

While I do agree that if it is your business, you get to make the rules, I think we should offer everything within our competency to enhance our brand and build client loyalty. Why let your client pay someone else for something you can provide??

I think we really need to know why you're so picky so we can offer advice specific to you...?! X

Are you doing the job because you have to or because its your passion.

Please do not take offence but if I saw on Facebook/flyer/advert ect what you offer I would

A) think you are not fully competent
B) can't be ars*d

So I'd love to know why your picky :) xx

Personally from a professional point of view I think you are limiting yourself to a very small clientele base. Personally I wouldn't ever use you purely because you don't offer what is want done.

I suppose you need to look at it from a customers point of view.

For example i have a cleaner. If I approached a cleaner and they only would do half the jobs I'd then have to get someone else to do the rest. If the other cleaner did everything I would have no need for the first cleaner.

In 14 years I've prob only had few clients that want a manicure with no polish.

When I personally wax I have head to toe done.

I think you will do better by offering full service within a particular field.
I.e all waxing.

There is far too much competition out there and unfortunately for you no body NEEDS you they choose a therapist based on what they offer price etc. if you lived on a remote island then yes they have no choice it's you or nothing. But I'm presuming you don't so potential clients in your area will have a large choice of therapists.

I would also look at it that you were not very good or not highly trained if you only offered such few easy treatments.

im gona come across a bit mean. part time to full time....if your being picky now on what your offering, perhaps keeping it at part time, getting used to treatments/products and get more confidence in offering the treatments, before you take the plunge to do full time.

Im lucky the things i maybe dont like, are now strenghts, but i also have staff.

if your usp is au natural, then great but from a pro point of view, clients like to see a price list of everything your capable of and choosing. When the luxury of choice is taken away, whats the point of offering services if your not confidence/capable of doing them?

Running a business, you get to review which services are not popular, busy etc and then you amend then accordingly. How can you amend if you dont know what your clientelle is after?

My advice is to ditch the being picky part and really review what you wish to do. We deal with things that the general public dont like, so get used to it! Eg pedicures/ intimate waxing/ perms/ etc xoxo

I wondered if you would be better off re-marketing yourself as a holistic therapist. From what you offer the beauty bit is not your scene, perhaps train in other therapies to compliment your massage and hot stone therapy.
