Hi Geeks,

First I would Like to thank you all for all your great advice. I have been a lurker for some time as forgot my password.

After some advice Please?

I have a website throw vistaprint www.elegancebeautytherapy.vpweb.co.uk
but I have just started to do Spray tanning and I have renamed my business elegance tanning and beauty also I hate the .vpweb bit as I think people wont remember this part.

My question is is it a bad idea to change my website address to elegancetanningandbeauty.co.uk. I have only been up and running 3 months and things are going well (touch wood).

I only advertise on the Internet and have only given a few business card out so don't think many people have my details written down, the ones who I think do I have a contact email address to tell them of the change.

I am just about to get 2500 flyer's printed so have to decide soon

My heart says Yes but my brain is saying No. Also I cant get my web address to come up when I type spray tanning and my town into google will me changing my web address to include tanning help?.

Thanks

Sarah xx

Well- as the person who is sitting down to design your leaflets today, and didn't know you were in a quandry..then yes, I'd say you'd need to make your mind up soon! :D

But, seriously, change it to the more professional one. Its cheap to do- and will benefit you more in the long run- but will make no real difference to your search engine rankings.

BUT!!!!

It's a bit long...... your domain name's function is for it to be remembered so people can find you easily, its not an explaination of everything you do.

Changing it to be simpler will just do what a domain is supposed to do- make you easy to remember and look professional.

You've got a Vistaprint site that's quite new, and you get what you pay for...its a cheap and cheerful website- its not going to do massively well on search engines as you have no control over it to a large extent. But for some people thats's fine, as they use it as a reference point, not as an marketing tool.

If you're serious about your marketing online, at some point you might have to think about getting a "proper" website.

I have a free website, and when I changed it to include my own domain name, the old one still worked as well. So I would definitely get a new domain name for on your leaflets etc as it does look better, and your old one will still work if you are planning to keep the same site.

If you are changing to a bespoke site then you can always change the home page on your vista one to have a link saying you have moved to xxxxxxxxx and then people will still find you.

Hope that helps xxx
