hi everyone just a quick question - is it safe to do nails on someone who is pregnant as my friend is and i just wanted to check before i do her nails for her. Does she need a note from her doctor like diabetics now do? :)

No problems at all, the only thing is if she is heavily pregnant to make sure she is comfortable. hth. Claire x

Yes it is safe to do a pregnant ladies nails, I have done many.
and no no no you do not need to get a note from the doctor to do a diabetics nails.
It is contra indicated because you need to know that they are in control of their condition. i.e they are following their diet or taking the tablets or injecting as they should.
In fact doctors have stated that they will not write letters for such frivolous reasons. That is not my wording its theirs.
Before all the newbies start again on this subject, please read previous threads, on this subject. Please go to the diabetic uk web site and Please phone your own doctors surgery and talk to the diabetic nurse.
It is actually important for diabetics to have regular pedicures and nail enhancements are fine.
Sorry to rant but with half my family diabetic and a few techs on here also diabetic I feel the need to stop having them treated like lepers.

Hi Ellie

I'm truly not being critical of you as having to ask the question is not your fault but this is something you should have been taught.

Out of interest what is the L3 Diploma you have achieved? (you don't have to answer!) It's gaps in training like this that are one of the many, many things wrong with so many courses.

When I was last pregnant in 2006 I was refused, if I remember rightly, about 2 or 3 times to have nail enhancements.

I was told in each salon because of the fumes ( again  ) it was dangerous to the baby....

This was for acrylic by the way.... I was told eventually to find someone who would do gel as this was better....

So I had my Auntie's nail tech do them as she did gel and she said the same thing....you can only have gel when you are pregnant

Now this was before I did my training so knew no better....
but it was only 2006...not that long ago...and so many said the same thing!!!!

Maybe I was unlucky in meeting some pretty un-knowledgeable people...

but I have to ask....has it always been the case you can do any type of work acrylic/L&P or Gel on a pregnant woman???? ( I mean has it always been taught in the courses? )

Just curious to know...and thank goodness I was taught you can have pregnant clients.....it really should be common knowledge in training.

Hi
I actually did my trainning with cnd when i was five and a half months pregnant, and think of all the practicing i had to do its not a problem at all. i even did myself a nice new set of nails the day before i went in to labour ha ha .

This was not something I was taught in training, nor is it taught here now. I learned from Doug Schoon.

i have just done CND course and my trainer was over 7mths pregnant so I would say def ok, she still does nails aswell at her salon x
