Is Solar Oil just as important with Gels (Brisa)?

Well, what it says basically!

I understand the reason behind using S.O with l&p what with l&p enhancements being porous, aswell as the need to keep the natural nail in good condition, but is it as necessary with gel? Since gels are not porous, the solar oil cant possibly penetrate them in the same way, and I have to admit, I've had gel toes on for a good while now and never used solar oil on them once (except for when they were freshly applied) and there's no lifting at all.

I will still advocate Solar oil at every given opportunity since its good to keep the natural nail in good condition, but I just wondered if Solar Oil is as important as a maintencance product for gels in the same way as it is for l&P

Personally, I use Solar oil as you would with L&P and also under the nails.

This IMO keeps the eponychium in good condition and also hydrates the natural nail. I advise my clients to do the same and it is very effective. HTH

Whatever the type of nail enhancement, or if only for natural nails: I advise strongly the use of a quality cuticle oil (which I call skin and nail conditioner LOL).

As long as it's a quality oil, it'll make a difference.

My client's swear by my oil and retail it to their friends LOL

Chelle it is as important to use with Brisa for the exact same reasons as L&P. As it is made from the highest quality and purest grade oils (vit e, rice bran, jojoba and sweet almond)... it is able to reptate through the enhancemement not only keeping the coating flexible but equally servicing the natural nail and keep that hydrated. i sell S.O in our salon, its taking time but im getting my boss round to my way of thinking, and finally got her to order some S.O for retail - anyway she agreed, and its flying out the door, i advise all my clients, be it gel or l/p to use S.O, i tell them all its benefits etc, and that they NEED it, cos without it, it will end up costing them more for repairs, cos their nails will become brittle etc. it dont take too long to convince them, we ordered 40 units of S.O not that long ago, and we will have to be putting in another order soon

I used to think the same thing...."how can oil benefit when using a buff off gel...if acetone cant even get through how will oil"....but then i was told on here that the gap you leave round the edges of the nail when using gel is where the oil can get in and do its stuff.

Aha!! Thanks Mrs Geek and Bagpuss, that's just what I needed to know. I love Solar Oil and will carry on plugging it to anyone who'll listen :)lol:), but I just needed to know if the S.O can work on the enhancement itself in the same way it can with an l&p. When I get to the Solar Oil bit of an l&p service I always show my client how to use it, followed by a big spiel about how good the oil is, and in fact how necessary it is. I would hate to say that to gel clients if in fact it;s not so necessary.

Thanks for answering the question, once again you have been very helpful :green:

I just say it helps to keep everything in good condition and feeds the nail as it grows from the root. Also it is great for dry skin on your elbows, mossie bites, scars, burns - so all in all it's really good stuff and wins loads of awards for being the best on the market.

I also heard a great thing on a well known shopping channel for selling cuticle oil. She said what's the point in having lovely nails and then raggedy cuticles, it's like having stained glass windows with tatty frames ... I use that one a lot!!!!!

I can always tell my "faithful' oil users versus the unfaithfull. The difference is visibly apparent.

One time, had a client that kept "forgetting' to use it, and complained about different things.
Then the next client came in early, at the end of the complainer's service.
The complainer asked the early arrival "how are your's today? how many breaks?"
My early arrival "NONE! I never have breaks" then proceeded to show the complainer how lovely her nails were WHICH aside from regrowth, were impecable.
The complainer asked her how come her nails were so nice.
To which the early arrival answered "because I use my oil every day, and wear gloves when cleaning and gardening. BTW Victoria, I need a refill" and promptly handed me her bottle.

The complainer has used her oil ever since and ceased her complaining (and ceased bashing her nails about too LOL)

PS: at one point, the complainer said to the early arrival, "you must have a job that's easy on your hands".
My early arrival answered "no, I work in a machine shop and machine parts all day. It's VERY rough on my hands actually. And I play basketball".

I had to bite my tongue from laughing out loud at the look on the complainer's face.

I can relate to that. I have one client in mind who is what I would call a textbook client, in fact if I could clone her and fill my appointment book with her I would:lol:. Far from being a lady of leisure, she's barmaid, an old school one at that who changes barrels and pulls proper hand pulled pints, but apart from new nail growth, she never presents any other problems at rebalance appointments.
Based on what you've said it would be nice if I could co-ordinate my appointments one time so that she arrives just as one of my less dedicated clients is leaving:lol:
