Has anyone got a leather suite that they've had professionaly cleaned? I've got a cream one that could really do with a good deep clean, i've tried all the usual cleaners and they're ok but it needs cleaning deep in the grain! just wondered if anyone had done this and how much/how good it was?

hi cherubs, have you try hairspray? i have a cream leather sofa, and 3 year oold, what a nightmare.

i use good old tesco value hairspray and that get out anything ang everything. and its alot cheaper than a professional clean.

Knew a chap who repaired leather seats for jaguar, he told me forget all the fancy stuff, get a scrubbing brush and some fairy soap flakes, the pure ones and a bucket of warm water and scrub. when clean wipe over with a big towel. when dry use a leather creem to hydrate, leather is skin. treat it like skin. he was right my friends yellow suit looked like new when she had finished.

OMG Thank you... we have 6 cream leather chairs in the kitchen and Dexter has managed to put blue biro (this is where he does his homework) on 4 of the 6 chairs - he sits where he feels like! anyway, I am off to get the elnet and have a go!

hair spray will bring out biro, no problem and the rest of the dirty. not saying that you have any, but you know what i mean.
i usually wipe off with a baby wipe and sofa is as good as new.

I think baby wipes are as good as the leather wipes you can buy, and a lot cheaper. I will try the soap flakes thou, as my sofas needs a good deep scrub by now I think. Dosen't help when you have a 4 year old who spills coke down the side of the cushions thou....:)

the best think to clean you leather sofas Lady's is get this!! saddle soap it will shift anything and leave you sofa looking fab!! and in between cleans just use baby wipes.:green: hopes this helps xx

Baby wipes have always done the trick for me...beats using any of the expensive cleaners :green:

Try horse riding suppliers or horse food suppliers, motor cycle clothing shops and leather goods shops
I still prefer my fairy soap flakes, I like the smell better to:lol:

Wow, thanks!
Gel wipe/alcohol gets biro out!!
I also use baby wipes and mild washing up liquid but gonna give the hairspray & saddle soap a go too!
Thanks again
Maybe we should all swap good stain removers for clothing too?
If your kids come home from school with paint on their clothes don't soak in hot or warm water as this sets the paint aparently, just soak them in cold water and it comes out (may need a little rub) but it's always worked for me!

ok, so you use like soap and warm water or cold water? dont mean to be thick but ive never herd of saddle soap...but im not a rider!!
i had a quote to clean my leather suite.......3 seater and 2 chairs....£300:eek: :!:

ooh that's handy to know!!!!
My main problem with my sofa's is the dye from jeans/dark clothing getting right into the grain! Trying to pursuade hubby that a nice new choccy brown colour would match the room better and be more practical with the kids but he's not having any of it.....yet!!!

Have to agree whole heartedly with this advice. I've got a pale yellow leather suite. When I got the company in to do a minor repair, I asked him about cleaning it as I couldn't get hold of the leather master foam I had bought from Klausner where we bought the suite from. he told me the best stuff was soap flakes - I tried it and voila - it gets all the muck out of the grain. Then just wipe over with a leather wipe to re hydrate.

YES HUN YOU WOULD GET THE SADDLE SOAP AND WARM WATER AND WASH AWAY ALL THE DIRT AND STAINS! MY LITTLE GIRL GOT HOLD OV A BIRO AND DECIDED TO DRAW ALL OVER THE TOP OV MY CREAM LEATHER PUFF AND AND WAS PULLING MY HAIR OUT AND THOUGHT IT WAS NOT GOING TO COME OUT!! AND HAY PRESTO SADDLE SOAP GOT IT OUT NO PROBS!! SO I ALWAYS WASH MINE WITH THAT NOW.

HOPE THIS HELP X

soap flakes are the ONLY safe cleaning product for leather as they do not contain bleaches, phosphates, enzymes or perfume if you have already used hairspray ... congratulations you have just destroyed your pride and joy so sit back relax and watch how your leather sofa will eventually peel and blister as you have damadged the suite's polyuerathane protective layer and see how hard the leather repair specialist trys not to laugh when you tell him you clean it with elvive hairspray

I have an off white leather sofa and the best thing I've used is Dove soap and water - it makes it look like new and as it has a similar pH to skin, and I'm told, leather, it won't dry it out or harm it in any way! X

Not on BROWN or COLOURED leather sofas!! Definately DON'T try this! (it will pull the colour right out of the sofa, so instead of a stain or a pen mark, you'll have a much of mismatched, faded swipes on your leather. Also, avoid acetone like the plague - this will wreck leather in no time.

My four year old drew on my brown leather sofa with a biro - so far I haven't gotten it out. I tried milk, baby wipes, and leather cleaner, but nada. Anything else will take out the colour, so I just have to live with the pen marks (at least they aren't noticable until you are sitting down!)

wheres this old thread come from? its nearing its 4th birthday !

baby lotion is what i use then a good rub with a flannell.
