Have just done a new client and her nails started lifting almost straight away, not on all fingers. I preped well and didnt miss any steps out. She is on medical and has alot of allergies but has had acrylic nails before.

Her nails were very dry and in poor condition. I wasnt really happy with them although she was and has already re-booked. Not sure why this could have happened. Please could someone advise, I feel like I have gone wrong somewhere but have gone over and over it in my head and I know I havent forgotten anything.

If they started lifting at the outset of the application... could be the primer or bonder wasn't applied properly.

Or the prep was incomplete.

Or cuticle-remover was still on the nail plate and not completely removed.

Did she use a hand cream just prior to the service (which would have left mineral oil etc on the nail plate)

Could you explain your prep, please?

Thanks for your reply although I have a bad feeling i have worked it out for myself.

Washed hands with swiss guard (but client then washed it off as it made her skin sensitive)
shaped nails
cuticle work (usually i use swiss guard but client didnt want this on her hands again so I use a cheapie one i had in my box - i think now this could be the problem)
gently buffed over nail plate
cleaned nail plate with nas99
applied dehydrator
allowed to dry
glued on tip
re applied dehydrator to natural nail
allowed to dry
applied primer to natural nail
allowed to dry
applied acrylic in 3 beads

Just dawned on me that the cuticle remover may not have been compatible, I was so set on removing the cuticle it didnt cross my mind that it may not be compatible with my products.

Thanks

to date, I have not seen issue with using alternate brands of cuticle remover as long as ALL TRACES ARE REMOVED afterwards.

I have noticed that some 'soaps' may cause problems when clients wash hands as they have moisturizers or other emollients in them that leave a residue on the nail plate.

I'm not familiar with the products you mention, unfortunately.
BUT you might want to double check your cuticle-removing process and check your 'alternate' hand cleansers ingredients.

ok thankyou, will take more care next time with prep. The products I use are OPI I have contacted them this afternoon and they suggested I gently remove cuticles dry next time but I thought this would scratch nail plate.
