Hi everyone I have been reading the groupon/living social topics on here. By the looks of things living social are better than groupon as they pay upfront and only take 40%?Just a bit concerned before I sign up. Anyone had bad experiences with either ?? Looks like as long as I cap the amount of vouchers and put my prices up to make them think they are getting a better deal and I'm not losing money then it's ok. What % come back ? Obviously it's down to the stylist but are they all just bargain hunters? What's the negatives?? It's just me in my new salon on my own so would cap it. Say I put cut and blow for £25 I would be left with roughly what?? £15? With living social? Any tips before I sign wud b so appreciated thanks!!! X

Have a search on this forum you'll find loads of threads and information on both things but particularly about Groupon.

Hi

I've read quite a few negative comments about these deals and I can definitly see peoples point of view and some have had nightmare situations but thought as I have actually had quite a positive response thought I'd share.

I have been open 6 weeks, only work part time and specialise in waxing. I started from scratch as had just finished my maternity leave and had no clients to begin with. I decided to do the "deal" offer because it gave me great exposure. I capped the number of available deals at 100, and the deal ran for 5 days. It was hard to get my head round the idea that I was "giving" away my services for a fraction of what I normally charge - especially when the deal company take their cut, but what far out weighed that was the thought that I would be getting people through the door.

So in 5 days I sold 72 offers. I've probably had 25 of them in so far and I'd say probably 15 have rebooked before leaving, I have got the details of everyone who has been (including email addresses) and I think even a few that didn't rebook will return at intervals they might not want to take the waxing regularly but will come back pre holidays etc.

For me it has given me exposure that I couldn't have achieved by myself as the company I used have a huge mailing list. I've also had deal clients recommend their friends to me.

The secret is to treat every client the same whether full paying or not and give them an amazing service - which I am sure you would do.

My deal clients have all said to me that they would never have known about me if it hadn't been for the deal so it's worked well for me.

But going back to your original post, ensure you get a good percentage from the deal company in your favour, cap the number of offers you want to sell, cap the time you want the offer available e.g. They have to use the voucher within 2 months, and double check the payment time from the deal company. And maybe make it a condition that the deal is only valid on your quieter days say mid week.

Hope this helps

hi
i had a living social on and was bullied by a rep to extend when i didnt have the space ( i work alone in my salon) then i had a man in on the deal who was sexually suggestive through his massage .. and a woman came in pretending to want to pay full price massage and then at the end i asked her for £30 and she just handed over a living social voucher i had ran 9 months ago for £10 not even in her name ! total nightmare! i emailed head office to say i wont do any more ... they never contacted me! now i have a woman saying im frauding her because living social refused her a refund and i should give her money back ! i got £5 per customer yet she wants £13! Do not touch living social!!
