Try MAC's Strobe cream as its a cream you can get a nice even distribution and is subtle enough to give a natural glow on the skin

Can anyone recommend a good shimmer to put on Brides collar bone and shoulders.
She's wearing a strapless dress and wants to enhance these areas.

I think when you are starting out in makeup it can be a bit overwhelming when choosing what products to buy. There are so many great products on the market but i guess you need to start with the basics. First invest in your tools as this is the most important thing in creating some beautiful work. I personally use MAC brushes as i used to work for them and have stuck with them. Their brush cleanser is also a really great solution for cleaning your brushes in between clients and will not damage your brushes.

Then you will need to start building your kit. Best to have a couple of different types of foundations/concealers in various shades to suit different needs i.e. matt or dewy finishes, coverages etc. You should have a good range of natural shades in both matt and reflective eyeshadows as well as a decent range of colourful shadows. MAC's paint pots are amazing for eyeshadow primers. blend on with a #217 brush and then apply eyeshadow immediately before it dries.

Eyepencils both kohl and water resistant. Mascaras both water proof and water based as well as disposable mascara wands. MAC's fluidline is a great product for a precise eyeliner with #210 brush or #266 angled brush. Also a good range of strip lashes. I buy mine from sallys on there VAT free days. ;o)

Matte and reflective blushers as well as cream blushers are good to have so that you have a range of different finishes again. I like to contour and highlight with mac mineralised powders as they are sheer and give a lovely finish. I also use these to set foundations and can also be used as bronzers.

I also use the blot powders as they hardly carry any colour and are good for setting foundation/concealer

I found this great for decanting lipsticks Buy Jelly Belly Beans in Fishing Tackle Box, 240g online at John Lewis - Jelly bean box from John Lewis

Make sure you get your discounts also. I have MUA discounts with MAC, Inglot and Illamasqua.

I know ive mentioned alot of MAC but i use their products mainly in my kit and love them, along with some great products from Illamasqua and i quite like Inglot eyeshadows too. I will post some more recommended products in another post as i have to get off to a client.

Hope this has helped.

I use MAC foundation, lipsticks, eyeshadow pallette. I use benefit blush and mascaras in my make up for kit and would love to know what everyone else uses...:D

Hi,

I have a possible bridal make up in August. She is very pale, mentions that she burns easily and her dress has a sweetheart neckline.

I would like some advice please from geeks regarding sun protection on shoulders, chest and face/cheeks. Foundation is meant to be SPF free to stop flashback. So how can I ensure that she does not experience flashback or burn should the sun choose to appear on her big day. Any help advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I honestly don't know what to suggest for you, maybe some more experienced geeks will have answer. But I have done some googling and nothing seems to really be helping. It seems like the problem ingredient is titanium dioxide, but I imagine you'll find that in all sunblocks. It might be worth picking a few matte finish foundations and trying them all over sunblock / taking a few test shots with a flash and seeing how they come out??

Can anyone help? I've been qualified in Beauty Therapy for over 16 years and did theatrical make-up which covered a wide range of techniques. I am recently self employed after teaching for years and am getting requests for lots of different treatments. A friend of mine has asked me to do the make-up for a 1950's themed photo shoot (I am over the moon she has asked). I know I can do the make-up, we have discussed what style eg. peach cheeks paler skin etc, however can any one recommend a make-up brand to use? For wedding make-up I use MAC, Boujoirs, estee lauder etc, but wasn't sure for the perfect skin look on the photo shoot what would be best! Is there something speacialist I should be using? Can anyone advise me please? Thanks x

Salj,

Thank you for responding. :D I also have had a look online but cannot seem to find the answer. Perhaps I can phone a make up company and see what they suggest.

Thank you for taking the time to respond I shall give them a call first.

Thanks Candystarrstarr! I'll give them a call. Has anyone else got any ideas so I can try a few products? I want a flawless look and a peach tone on the cheeks!

Ive recently spent a fortune on a range of illamasca skin base foundations for all 10 weddings i have booked in for the next few months.
My concern is that i tried the foundation on my own face to see how it went on, longivity ect and well i have to say i was very dissapointed. It stuck to the slightest dry patch and i was left looking very shiney after only a few hours??!
Does anyone have any tips. im worried my brides arent gonna be very happy when they see their photographs.
Ive previously used maybaline dream matt mouse, the only reason i decided to change was because i felt as it wasnt from a proffessional range i should change.

One thing i do ABSOULTLY LOVE is the Dior quad eyeshadow pallets! Great colours and they last sooooo long :)

One foundation won't suit all skin types, it's best to have a couple of options in your kit.

I agree with salj , I carry probably 8 different brands / types of foundation depending on skin type and finish, but you were right thinking to get a professional brand and everyone raves about skin base but I'm with you , I don't get on with it at all. My favourites just now are nars sheer glow and Armani luminous silk

What would you all recommend as your favourite all round good concealer?

Bobbi brown bbu palette , all colours and correctors and really creamy, but a bit pricey, on the budget end I do like collections lasting perfection also or the dermacolour palettes

Mmmm just recently bought the MAC Powerpoint pencil in 'Duck' & their Sumptuous Olive eyeshadow for my palette...I'm such a giant sucker for natural makeup trickery & these products are just beautiful!!! :)

Illamasqua are launching a new product today designed to be used under Skin Base. Yes, it does stick to dry patches but it is all about prepping the skin correctly. I will be investing in this new product but I find that their Satin Primer does the job really well too.

Also, It is up to the bride to ensure that her skin is in great condition for her big day. make sure you are advising them to look after their skin proerly. This means regular exfoliation (I prefer chemical) and a good moisturiser, morning and night.

Is this the only foundation that you have in your kit? It is imperative to have different foundations to suit different skin types. Not only this, some people may only want a very light coverage and will not need Skin Base.

Thank you i'll have a look
I have a few maybaline dream matt mouse (which i love)

Face and Body is a fantastic foundation for photographic work and especially bridal as it has no spf and is waterproof. If someone already has good skin then it is a great option. It can also be built up nicely if you do need a little more coverage. Another good point is that you don't need many shades as it is sheer and mixes really well. I always have the white in my kit.

I ordered this the other day (got early access to the new collection). Very excited to try it because as much as I love skin base, I don't love it on my super dry skin!
