i recently qualified as a make up artist and have been taking 6 mths out to "practice" and build up a portfolio, and put my kit together

im now wondering whether its a good time too try an offer this service .. bridal makeup is not an essential wedding service, so i guess this is one of the first things cash strapped brides will decide to give the chop

just wondered how established makeup artists were coping with the current financial climate, and if they were offering other services instead of or as well as bridal makeup

many thanks

Hi there. I do offer other treatments that way i can offer the bride the full package tan wax nails make-up and recently added lash extensions. I don't think it is something the bride will give up it is there special day and of course they want to look there best and its not that expensive for it to make that much difference to their budget. Why don't you go and get a stand at some bridal Fayre's that way you can give them a taster of how they could look offer a discount if they book a trial with you there and then once they see how much better they can look they wont be able to say no! What products are you using in your kit? I started a thread to see what was peoples fave makeup product but got no replies !!! haha xxx:Grope:

hi
thanks for your kind reply and advice .. still "practicing" at the moment, and building up portfolio of pics - and was thinking of taking a stand at a local wedding fayre oct this year
do you advertise at wedding fayres? really would love to know more, do you just bring your kit and offer trials, do you offer discounts, run raffles etc ?
my kit currently consists of : mac, bobbi brown, clinique, dior, chanel, and similar - although have long way to go yet!
i swear by hypnose and diorshow mascaras, love bobbi browns gel eyeliners and eyeshadow palettes, clinique trans powder and buttershine lippies, gorgeous colours, gr8t staying power and no need for gloss, mac and chanel foundations - vitalumiere
can i ask how the eyelash extensions are going? is it something brides are interested in? i learnt eyelash tinting and perming on my course and was thinking about offering eyelash extenions also .. just not sure which make, nouveau or hollywood are top of my list at the mo.

How about teaming up with a wedding photographer, and offering make-up as part of the photo package?

The lady who did our wedding photography (Vanessa Wayne, Female Wedding Photographer in Surrey) is also a make-up artist and did our wedding make-up too.

Hopefully that would get you more work, as the photographer would then recommend your services when booking the wedding photo package...
