Hi girls - ive just started a bridal makeup and spray tanning business, but a friend of a friend has mentioned that her daughter is having a few friends to the house on her 13th bday and would i do something with makeup for them. Just wondered if any of you have done something similar and if so, can you give me some food for thought, got a bit of a creative block going on - im not too sure what format it should take?!? any suggestions? many thanks x

I suggest asking the girls what kind of "looks" they want to go for, or take magazines/pictures or whatever of celebs to give you an idea of what they want. Ask them what colours they like and what colours they usually wear.
I have a lot of teenage clients and most of the time they say they "don't mind" and so i just go by their hair and eye colour.
Usually with 13 year olds its all about big lashes and glitter! :green:

Two suggestions based on feedback from mums....

X-factor looks or Dancing on Ice looks ( slight personal bias here.)

I know I'm in for a flaming here, but hey, I like to live dangerously! I think putting makeup on 13 year olds is questionable. The premature sexualisation of children has a lot to answer for. We dress our little girls up to look like mini Lolitas and then we wonder why men look at them.

Ive seen some sights on young teenage girls! why dont you give them a makeup lesson on how to wear a natural pretty make-up they will be starting to expeiment with mascara and eyeliner and very orange foundation! Show them how to wear it and give them advice on good less in expensive high street brands.

SO TRUE!

Thanks for your replies girls - yep must admit im not wholly comfortable with that either - i was thinking of doing a bit of a skincare routine addressing the problems with teenage skin etc and then a nice natural makeup etc. Many thanks anyway x

Very easy to forget our childhoods...... I don't know many little girls that didn't want to look like a Princess! The problem with PC is how ridiculously it is applied - no junior hairstylists anymore, its ageist.....apparently.

This is about fun, and gaining life experiences. A party in a private family setting.. why try and make it pervy????? Don't get it.

As a parent of three children I didn't give it a thought. Curious that.

You could go very glittery with elements of face painting - like flowers or swirls in white pencil at the side of the eyes - this keeps it quite innocent but they can still have gloss and glitter and its fun.

If they not up for that, keep it as natural as poss , rose pink cheeks - lip gloss and a little shimmer for the eyes with mascara.

I agree our kids arn't kids for 2 minutes - they don't realise they will be an adult for an awful long time so there's no hurry to be grown up.

I was still sneakily playing with my sindy dolls at 12 and 13 (they were kept at my grandparents house) my friends would have really took the piss if they knew - but looking back - what was really wrong with wanting to stay a child.
