Hi
I've been doing female intimate waxing 4 about 5 yrs and male intimate waxing for about 4 months. Today I just found out my insurance company won't cover me anymore as I now need a certificate in intimate waxing not just waxing as they said before when I spoke to them..... So now I don't know what to do?! I don't really want to have to do a full training course in something I already do and am confident in and pay in excess of £200!! Is there somewhere I can go where they can assess me and then give me a certificate??
Hannah

Professional beauty direct, unless things have changed from last April will insure you to do any waxing as long as you have your basic waxing it would be cheaper for you to be insured twice than to take another course.
In some ways this is now obviously a good thing because there are probably a lot of inexperienced waxers waxing peoples bits to shreds but obviously not so good for those that have been waxing for years and have been doing intimates for years when they werent really classified as anything exceptional, you just had to do what someone wanted and get on with it,but then years ago the initial training was so much better than it often is today.

Who trained you to do male intimate waxing?

You’ll not be on your own here Hannah.
There are many confident and competent waxing therapists out there who have merely responded to client needs over the last 10yrs but not actually had (or felt they needed) any formal training. ...”can you just take it in a bit more” ... we’ve all experienced it!
Fact is though it’s a soft tissue treatment and does/should require a combination of training, learning and experience. It’s quite right our insurance companies won’t cover us if we haven’t had the appropriate training...they are in the business of mitigating risk. And as therapists we need to ensure we are the best at what we do and are bolted and braced legally.
More should be done to communicate the governance around intimate requirements (so you would have known and been aware of this). I LOVE waxing and this industry but this is a real bugbear for me....(.so I’ll move on quickly before I REALLY go into one!!!!)
However frustrating you find it Hannah get some formal training...perfect what you already do and reaffirm the skills and techniques you are using - it’ll be the best £200 you ever spend and ensure you are damn good at what you do.

Who are the trainers though there are some dreadful ones out there.
It seems ridiculous that someone that has been intimate waxing for years should have to now be trained by someone who may know less and be a lot less skilled than them.
I have a friend who has been intimate waxing everyday for 20 years, ladies form a certain ethnicity who have been wise to this form of waxing alot longer than most, there is nothing she could be taught she is brilliant at what she does and definately does not need to go on an intimate wax course.

I agree with Gillian. There are a lot of therapists who have been doing treatments since the year dot, and over the years will have honed their waxing skills, often to incorporate more intimate waxing as demand dictated, long long before there were specialist courses in these things. It has to be remembered that some of the first trainers in this area would have been amongst their number.

I'm insured with them! When I spoke tothem in may it was fine but now they say it must state the area on my basic waxing certificate. Nice of them to let us know!

Well beauty therapy training and insurance standards in this country now just make me steamy mad.I think you just have to set your own standards which are hopefully high.

I'd love to know what they say to u!

Hi there, you can do a intimate waxing course with the Cartlon institute which is £125 plus Vat. Hope this helps. x

Shame i am so far away as i would be happy to assess and help but maybe there is still a way as i have to meet with some trainers and go through their assessment and we could maybe work something out to get you fully accredited at the same time even though its not quite on your doorstep ?

Hannah, I know you don't want to be spending much more money on training, but having the right training from the finest trainer there is is money worth spending and you will get it back 10 fold with the confidence you would gain from such excellent tutoring. Axion (Andy) is only 30 miles approximately from you and you are very fortunate to have such a prestigious trainer almost on your door step and you could do a day’s training to cover all you need for your insurance and skills and working tips you won't believe. I have travelled down from West Yorkshire to have training with Andy on a few occasions and there was always something more I picked up from his excellent teaching skills. Don't worry I am not on commission lol!!

Be aware of people offering you 'assessment' unless you know they have had years of experience themselves as they might just well be one step ahead of you and had little hands on experience.

I totally agree Jen, I would watch out and only go for training with fully accredited and experienced trainers /educators and those who can offer a qualified training and / or assessment.
