Want to start this thread stating that i do not have Any prejudice against Any person, male, female, gay, straight or race. But have you ever encountered a client who has? I've just had a convo with some one who said there daughter straight out refused to have her hair done by an "obviously gay" male stylist. I've never encountered this before but wasn't sure if it was just me? As a salon owner, how would you react to this? I don't have Any problems with anyone but it got me thinking about race, sex, religion, etc. Have you ever had a client be rude to you because of who you are? Hope i don't get lynched for posting this...i just thought In this day and age people were different?

I used to work alongside my best (gay) friend, and found that clients would say to me, oooo I see you have a new stylist, i don't think he'd be my cup of tea if you know what I mean!
I'd be completely shocked at what some of them would actually say and think they could get away with! People can be so rude and hurtful. It's so unacceptable in this day and age too, but I'm always still unsure how to react.
Will be interesting to see others peoples experiences in this x

As a gay male therapist whose been working in the industry since 96/7, I've found very little prejudice. It could be that I'm not that camp or flouncy, but I've never had a problem building a client base, and I've worked in city, town & village beauty salons. I think a lot of it comes down to professionalism & how you present yourself; some gay people do have a habit of going a little over the top, which can put people off, myself included!!

In my experience, every male stylist or therapist I have ever worked with had a full book!

I would rather have a guy do my hair, and my nails...... Men know what women want and how to treat them. There are some fabulous guys who are techs and hairdressers. And on the gay guy thing. My cleaner is Gay and I tell him every week how much I love him.... god can that man clean and he always cheers my clients up he has them screaming laughing every week. He is 63 and doesnt look a day over 40.

My kids adore him he is always full of helpful advice and someone I can turn too. Love him to bits.

I live in a town with very few ethnic minorities, very white, religious stronghold, low tolerance for anyone different and a strong BNP presence.

You can only imagine how well I go down from a mixed race family, liberal minded and atheist! I spend a lot of my time holding my tongue.

Sometimes it is really best to keep you conversation limited to weather and holidays

I might add my views has never affected my business and possibly made them more curious!
