Evening geeks!

A question for all the minxers out there.....

Have you got the lamp?

If yes, what made you buy it rather than using something else?

If no, what made you decide not to bother? and what is your alternative?

The reason I am asking is that I have noticed on the S2 website that there is a mini minx kit without the lamp and the maxi kit with the lamp...so does this mean that the lamp is not essential??

Sorry for all the questions!

I am about to take the plunge and get on the minx band-wagon as it looks awesome! I am keen to buy the maxi kit, just thought i'd get your opinions on the above questions!!!

Big hugs as always xx  xx

What is essential is a heat source.

S2 have sourced a very good very safe Infrared lamp to go with the maxi kit but other infra red lamps will do the trick too.

Many people and therapists already have an infrared lamp that they use in their business so in that case, it is not necessary for those ones to buy another which is why there is a choice. HTH

i was like you, wasnt sure which one to go for, saw lots of alternatives which i am sure do the job, however in the end i decided to get the lamp in the maxi kit as want to look professional etc - have to say that it is fab and so flexible and sturdy so there are no problems reaching those toes :)

HTH x

Good point Kirsty .. thank you ... that is one of the main reasons we chose the lamp in the Maxi Minx kit because it is so good for reaching the toes!! It is an exceptionally good quality lamp. Duh me !!

I also like the other safety features of the lamp.

The protective grill so that clients cannot accidentally touch the bulb and get burned.

The handle for moving and angling the shade so the therapist cannot get burned.

The dimmer/sliding switch for reducing the heat from the bulb when you need to.

All these features give a truly professional service and make your life easier (which I am all for doing at all times :green:)

I did my one to one training with the lamp for s2 however it is a bit big for me being mobile..so I would definitely reccommend it for in a salon but for mobile usage I use a smaller version of the lamp..hope this is helpful

Hi, Please PM me too----where you got your lamp. Thanks

I havn't bought a lamp yet, I've been using my table light lamp.
Not as convenient to use as the minx lamp but it produces enough heat to get the job done.
In saying that I will get one of the minx lamps when funds allow, (bills come first ) after having my feet minxed by a fellow geek and seeing the ease of use.

Am i right in thinking you don't need the s2 nail lamp to do minx nails

Can i just buy a infra red light bulp and put it in my desk lamp
I can get my desk lamp down to the toes and etc etc.

How much is it per sheet for the minx foil coverings?

Still to join the s2 site i'm terrible i just cant be bothered posting my certs

Any info would be fab i cant wait to get buy the stuff.

Chances are if you place an infa red bulb into your desk lamp you will end up melting your lamp
You will have to get around to posting your certs I'm afraid, prices won't be given on this site.

Hi I faxed mine they were so organised I had my account by the next morning I also bought the lamp which I use for mobile work aswell a bit bulky but hey no point in having two. You can buy the lamp from the company that make them but is exactly the same price and if you are buying the minx it seems daft to pay for two seperate postage costs best to keep with one place. Minx is totally fab would be worth the effort!!!!

Any infra red lamp will do the trick BUT be careful when working with the public that you are working safely!!!

The lamp from S2 is well protected which means your clients too are well protected and so are you.

If you start sticking infrared bulbs into any old lamp you risk a fire and you risk burning yourself or your client. BE sensible.

After looking at alternatives for the lamp, (I was reluctant to pay out that amount for another lamp) I ended up going with the s2 lamp. Other lamps just didnt look sturdy/professional enough, and the way my luck is, if I had used an infra red bulb in any other lamp, I would have had a fire!
It arrived today, so I am itching to get going with it!

I think you made the right move. Professionals shouldn't take risks. They always end up being more expensive in the end than if you hadn't. Injury, lawsuits, fire damage ... who knows .... it would all be more expensive than a darned lamp!!

My new Minx lamp arrives last week after the first one died!!!
Anyhow, I know this may sound stupid but the bulb isn't red!!!
It gets really hot and does the job so I'm not concerned, I just thought it would be red!!!

No it's not red anymore ... we prefer the white infrared bulb (I know it sounds funny).

I wish I had the white bulb but mine is the original red one ... there is absolutely no difference in performance but I prefer the white light to work under rather than the the redish glow from the other..

Oh I see! Thanks Gigi, If the white bulb is good enough for you then it's good enough for me lol. You are right though, that red light isn't great on the eyes, and I sometimes wonder what people think when they see the red light out of my window, no wonder I get asked for extras lol.xx

We are phasing all of them to white as they are much easier IMO to work under. Saying that we recently received a batch with red simply because the whites were on Backorder from the manufacturer and the red ones work just as well ;)

Just on a side note: We researched lamps for almost 3 months while prepping up for the Minx launch and in the end went with the current Daylight version as we felt it was the all around best. Others were too poor of quality, dangerous, ineffective, etc...

My only wish is that we could have made it a little more flexible for mobile work. We will keep looking peeps. If you do come across a quality lamps that you feel would be great for mobile work, let us know so we can look into the possibility of offering it.
