hi guys,
iv been planig setting up mobile for a few months, and im saving up and getting the stock i need 2 start off, i'm sorting out insurance and i'm going on a business start up course in a few weeks too.
the main issue i have now..is advertising and naming my business. i know what i plan to do ...i will get business cards made up and flyers, and go to local gyms, schools etc to spread the word. and i plan to start up with a scheme for loyalty (some kind of discount). i know what i want to name my business, and nobody local to me has this name, and i have designed a logo for this as well...so i 'm all set.but ....are there any legal requirements with naming my mobile business?or can i just name it and use my logo?! that sounds sily i guess but i want to do evrything correctly!!

and with regards to business cards etc...if i have my logo will printers etc like vista, take my logo and print this for me? i am going to get my car sign written with it too eventually.

any advise would be sooooo helpful :D

Im not sure the legal requirements for naming a business, but I would try to find out if you can get the domain name so you can develop a website. Try 123-reg.co.uk they dont cost too much but at least you can secure your name and make sure no-one else can set up a website using your business name.
This is what I did - it took a while to find a name that wasnt already taken - you might find that your name on a .com or .co.uk is already taken so you might decide to alter your name accordingly.
Or you might feel that the web is not important to you?
anyway hope this helps.

As long as the name isnt trademarked or copywritten then there isnt a problem.

However for example if you wanted to start a clothing range and design tracksuits called nike then you may expect a visit.

I also remember a local radio station used the swoosh (very similar) and they got there hands rapped.

And Also the words 'pimp my' are protected too by MTV. I know of two businesses shut down for mis use of the name and one was a wedding company and one was a pet grooming parlour.

You can copy protect your name and logo but its expensive. As long as its a name and logo that isnt like any other big company then basically you can trade as whoever you want.

thaks forthe help, i want to set up a website but i wasnt sure how to go about it so thats a big help thanks! do you know how i can check the name isnt trademarked already?

thank you so much!!!

Sorry Kayleigh
I don't know but I'm sure if you google the question "trademark my company name" or something like that you will get some info.
cheers

look on 'companies house' website, type in your name and it will come up with all the businesses that have been registered that are similar to yours. if you are still unsure wether your name will be ok, you can call them up and discuss it with them. if they say that your name is ok then great, but it wont be protected from anyone else that wants to use it until you register the name.......which means becoming a limited company, which costs quite abit!:irked:

yeh i kow that yo uhave 2 become a limited company 2 stop people usig that name..and i ay do that if al goes 2 plan and it takes off well..but ijust wat to be sure i'm not startin off on a bad foot with someone eses name and get into trouble!! thanks people :)

Ive posted my cards around our village today and just had a phone call from someone in the area who says her mobile business has the same name! What are the chances. Now i have to rethink a new name (it took me ages to think of the first one) and get new cards and leaflets printed up. Gutted or what. Back to the design board.....

I like your thinking Queen Bee. lol That made me chuckle but my morals tell me to do the decent thing.

i've got in touch with companys house and the name i want to use is not being used..so i can go ahead. but.. i've looked and there are similar names used at salons, none close to me however. but i am using my name and mobile therapy on the end of it so its clear it is a different business.. so is it fine to go ahead ad use my name?! i am so excited :D thnk you all!!
