Hi,

Im looking into getting insurance for tanning and also registering with tax,
What insurance companys are people with and anyone tax registered?

Thanks
Mx:)

I would hope we are all registered for tax,
if not this is the ideal place for the tax man to catch us lol,
you get in touch with your local inland revenue office and tell them you are self employed, they will send you a form out for you to fill in and offer lots of help,
they are quite good,
insurances...
salon gold
professional beauty
the guild
babtac
are just some of the ones we all use, hth

Thanks!
Few people I have spoken say they are not insured or tax registered,
I personally dont fancy risking it tho,

If you would like any information on the Guild's £2 million Public, Product and Treatment Liability cover, feel free to PM me, take a look at www.beautyguild.com or call us on 0845 2177383.

Don't forget, if you quote Geek as your referral code when you join, you will get a £10 discount.

And dont leave it too long to get Nationally Insured as they will fine you a £100 if you dont register within 3 months of going self employed. Even if you dont earn the money, register.
Be aware that not all beauty insurance companies are the same. Sometimes it's of no benefit to just go for the cheapest as I heard this week one of the less expensive ones will no insure you doing pregnant ladies!!!!!!
Its the old age thing 'you get what you pay for'
Speak to the guild, they will advise you well. As so will Babtac HTH:hug:

I'm not going self employed I am already employed full time I just want it as a part time thing at nights and weekends I was reading something about if you are already in employment, earning over 35k you can get a tax exempt certificate? As you will be paying enough tax from your full time job meaning I shouldn't have to pay tax, so I won't be giving that money away to the tax man :) but I'll give them a phone there is sooo much on their website it's easy to get lost lol but I do want to have it all legit even if it is just a seasonal or part time thing,

Thanks for the replies

Mx

Even if you are doing it part time on evenings and weekends it is a second job and you will be self employed in your second job, hth

Tax is determined by income not by the number of jobs you have. Even if you will not be paying any extra tax you will still have to declare the income or it is classed as tax evasion. The only time you don't need to pay tax on income is when you are earning under the minimum threshold of complete earnings (all jobs added together) which as you have another well paid job you will not be.

Despite what you've been told tax doesn't work that the more you earn the less you pay, it is totally the opposite-the more you earn the more you pay- you can't get a job on the side and keep the money for yourself.

Regardless of any other factor you need to submit a tax return with the details of all your income even if it is £10 for the whole year and you spent £300 pounds in products so are at a loss. They still need to have this info on record.

Good on you for doing the right thing they will send you the info and you need to contact them within I think it's 3 mths of starting but check the HMRC website. Just explain that you are employed too. Get this years (April 09-April 10) tax return in on paper by the 31st October next year and they will work out what you owe for you.
