Hi there,

I've had my nails done with Bio for 5 years or so and loved the product so much I decided to train to become a nail tech myself and qualified with Bio Sculpture 2 years ago.

I was just starting to build up a client base last year when I developed a really severe allergy to acrylates and formaldyhyde, which damaged my hands and meant that I could no longer use any acrylate-based nail products - sadly I had to give up my mobile nail business and abandon some loyal clients who had supported me from the start.

I recently heard from a fellow geek about Brisa gel which is acrylate free and sounds like the solution to my problem as I would really love to get back into nails again. I am going tomorrow to have a couple of nails gelled with Brisa at a training centre, and if I don't have any allergic reaction I am going to proceed with training.

I just wondered if anyone has experience of using both Bio and Brisa, and can advise me on what to expect if I switch to Brisa? Eg treatment times for overlays, cost, use of product etc. I did enjoy using Bio but as it is the only system I'm trained in I've got nothing to compare it to. I've heard that Bio is best for clients wanting colour gels, however I didn't have a huge following for colour gels and found the process of building up a decent colour stock offering quite expensive. Is Brisa gel overlay primarily for French?

Any advice would be much appreciated

hiya,

I can't really compare bio to brisa as I've only ever used brisa myself, so am unaware of the cost of bio, but do know the benifits of brisa!

brisa is a hard gel (buff off) so can be easliy be used for sculpting on a tip and form or natural nail overlays, so very versatile, brisa has a range of 'bolds' a 6 pack of colours that can all be mixed and blended to create any colour, this saves you having to invest in dozens of colours, some of which you may never use, it also has a 'shimmers' collection for added sparkle and now a black to create your darker shades, clients love the fact you can create 'their' colour infront of them and makes this service 'bespoke' xxx

hope your day goes well tomorrow xx

Brisa and Bio Sculpture are totally different from one another in pretty much every way... other than that they are both gels.

I hope all goes well for you - Brisa is a lovely gel. Trickier to master than Bio but well worth the effort.

All nail products are based in acrylates, hun - they just have different kinds. Brisa has a "methacrylate mixture" as stated in their MSDS sheet. Brisa has taken out many of the ingredients that have proven to cause over-exposure issues - but you still may have an allergic reaction - it is just less likely with this product.

I am allergic to all gel products - anything that must be cured by UV light I am allergic to. I have no such issues with l&p products and figerglass wraps.

I still have to work with gels though, so I use a barrier cream called "Gloves in a bottle" and vinyl gloves and have absolutely no reaction to the product.

Hope this helps!

Thankyou for the comments geeks, really helpful. Had my tester nail done today (just an overlay) and so far no reaction.

Mely-bely thanks for the note on the acrylate content. I am surprised you can continue using gel - my allergy was so severe at the time that even when wearing barrier cream and nitrile gloves on top I would develop irritation and rash on my eyelids, arms and shins (when covered) 3-4 hours after treating a client. Can't tell you how disappointing this was! Nice to hear from someone in the same boat though.

Wondering whether I should cut my losses and leave alone?!

That sounds so terrible! I am lucky enough that only my hands will react - I don't react anywhere else.

Hopefully Brisa will be the answer for you!
