Hi.

I have just qualified as a nail technician. I have done a couple of clients nails (acrylic tips) but after a couple of days they said that most of the nails have come off. The tips I used are the Edge competition tips that say they dont need blending.

Does anyone have any good advice on where I am possibly going wrong

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the site Lou

I'd say it was more than likely your prep...
Can you talk us through what you do for prep, that way we can see if we can help you.

I would not think the problem would be the tips you use, but rather a lack of strength in the right areas if the tips are breaking (assuming you are applying the tips correctly) or as Sandi says, insufficient PREP if the nails are lifting. It is very hard to give you an answer when it is impossible to see your work.

Have you seen any of the nails that have reportedly come off or are you just taking the clients' word for it?

The structure of the nails you make is very important for strength and longevity and the prep is very important for everything else.

I filed the free edge, removed the excess cuticles, sanitized, lightly filed the nails to remove shine the sanitized again. once i had applied the tips, i put primer on the natural nail before applying the acrylic.
All of this i was told to do at college.

Are they saying the whole enhancement has lifted off or are they saying the tips have broken off ... there is a big difference.

Your prep routine sounds OK PROVIDED you really are removing all traces of cuticle from the nail plate and the nails are perfectly clean and DRY.

Did you use a cuticle removing product to remove the non-living tissue from the nail plate?
If so, did you remove it thoroughly before continuing with your application?

Is it just the tip (zone 1) that's come off or have they lost the whole enhancement?

edit to add: lol Gigi, I wasn't copying, honest

im not sure whether it is just the tip or the whole nail that has pinged off. i use cuticle terminator to remove non living tissue. to remove the excess cuticle remover i spray some sanitizer on a lint free pad and wipe the nail bed.
thank you for your replies guys. really appreciate your help and advice

Well you need to determine this by SEEING the nails of those who are complaining; that is how yo learn to improve.

Seeing the nails will tell you if they lifted off (the nails will look smooth) or if the tips broke off (in which case the rest of the product will still be on and you can judge the depth of the product to ascertain if it was too thin) or if they were 'helped' off in which case the surface will look rough. You must ask to see them.

hi there

I'm a newbie myself, only qualified last year and I have been having the same problem as you. The people on here are brilliant and their advice is second to none. But even though I followed it, I still had the same problems. Then someone suggested I go and get some one to one training....it helped me so much. I was £45 per hour and I had two solid hours with Lisa in Sittingbourne. She showed me where I was going wrong and now I'm improving...but it takes loads and loads of practice. I'm going to do my Masters after Christmas to try to improve more. Good luck!!

:)

Blondey, you mentioned a one to one, was this was CND?
Thanks!

You need to practice practice practice, this is not something you can learn overnight, its an art! I would offer your clients a cheap rate to start off with and explain that you've just finished your training that way you've covered yourself.
You could be goin wrong for a number of reasons i.e your prep work isnt thorough enough, wrong size tips, clients nails are toooooooo long, incorrect mix ratio if your using liquid and powder?

Hope this helps xxxx:lol:
