Maybe I've missed it somewhere in my nail books, but why do toe nails tend to grow more slowly than finger nails? I'm only just starting to consider my minxed toes to be in need of replacing after two months. :) Wish the same could be said of my fingers, in terms of rebalancing. :irked:

Hi, I've just done my training and we were told that fingernails grow twice as fast as toenails. A toenail can take on average 12 months to grow from top to bottom whereas a finger nail can take 6 months. As for the reason Why, I don't know. I lost my complete thumbnail last year and it took exacly 6 months to grow back.

Now I don't know how much truth there is in this but I heard that as your hands are closer to your vital organs where there is more concentration of nutrients they tend to get more nutrients than your toes. The nutrient rich blood has further to travel and large muscle groups like your buttocks and thighs will take quite a bit of these nutrients. So by the time the blood reaches the toes there is not as much left. Sort of sounded plausible but I wouldn't stake anything on that.

The longer your fingers the faster your nail grows.
Your toes are shorter than your fingers so they grow slower. Fingernails grow approx 2X the rate of your toe nails.
