I done my nans nails in acrylics about 3months ago, now they ahve been taken off and her natural nail is not growing.

Can anyone recommend any products or anything we can do to make them healthier and grow quicker. Do regular manicures help?

xx

its very nunlikely that they are not growing.
more likely what is happening is that now they are not protectected by a layer of acrylic, they are wearing away or breaking so no growth is seen.

the best way to encourage growth is to use cuticle oil a few times a day and massage it well in.the oil will keep the nails flexible and help to prevent breakages and the massage will stimulate the circulation and boost the blood supply to the natural nails and assist with growth.

I agree with Susan, also what was the condition of her natural nail before you enhanced them, if they were ok then maybe you have used to harsh a file during application and removal.

Did she have healthy nails before and what age is she? If her nails weren't healthy prior to wearing enhancements, they won't be, not matter what you do. So much of that is due to heredity. As with the rest of our body as we age, things change. As stated earlier her nails are growing, maybe not as quickly. Not sure there is anything out there to make them grow faster. I find wearing polish gives my nails some protection after taking off enhancements and then you can see they are growing.

I would use Revitanail if you can get it where you are, it did wonders to my nails and make sure to use cuticle oil as well

My nan is 76. Her nails were brittle to begin with. They only grew a little and then snapped, and thats what they keep doing nnow. I know that she buffs them regurlary to reduce the ridges and she has been wearing opi nail varnish. Maybe i shouldn't have done the treatment knowing they were in a bad way before. xx

It could be her buffing them on a regular basis that is weakening them. What is she buffing them with? It may be better for her to use a ridge filler.

Erm... ha ha. i thought it was just called a buffer, the ones with a smooth surface. x

in my experience natural nails only look and feel in better condition after acrylic removal (if its been on for an entire growth cycle), unless there is some condition causing poor nail health (wether it be disease, heredity or whatever). theyve been covered and protected afterall. soaking off acrylic can severely dehdrate the natural nail as well so be sure to condition them thoroughly and have her stop buffing out the ridges. and if they bother her that much why not fill them in with a clear nno?

Thankyou yeh i understand. It's not so much the ridges that bother her. It's just her nails snap so easily, there healthier now since the acrylic was taken off.. i made sure that i took them off correctly. i just wanted to know what anyone could recomend for this condition? So you think tell her to stop buffing them so regurlary? x

yes, excessive buffing them will make them thin and that will lead to breakage.
use the smoothest side only on the buffer just once a week.

Even if she is using a very soft buffer, if she is doing it a lot and over a period of time, it will take off layers of the nail, which may make the nail weak. It would be better to use a ridge filler, OPI has one and there are other companies out there that make them. Plus this will give her some protection. As stated earlier health could be some reasons, but it also could be heredity. As far as acetone, it only temporarily changes the surface of the nail and the moisture levels are restored varily quickly on their own, so it doesn't damage the nail. But it is always a good idea to use a good quality cuticle oil on a daily basis.
