I want to take a course to become a nail techinician but there is so many to choose from i just wondered if anyone had taken this one?

NCFE Level 2 Nail Technician

the website says it is a nationally recognised certificate which is what i want even though it is home learning.

I have tried to find ones in a classroom type environment but the ones i found were either to far away from me or £1000+ to do a college course! Im starting to get frustrated!! lol. Any opinions on the above course would be welcome! I want a certificate that salons will recognise as although being mobile sounds great for the future i would like to start in a salon.

Thanks!!

Sorry but these courses are appalling!!!

It says "similar to the NVQ". They are NOTHING like the NVQ which is a skill based qualification. The qualification is certainly not recognised by the industry authority, Habia!!

Nail Services need a great deal of theoretical learning but, and most importantly, they involve practical skills on real people. These courses don't even involve a practical assessment just a written one. And then the advertise that you can "get the job that you want". "Never have to go to an old fashioned college"!

Unbelievable! And at that price!!!!

If I sound annoyed, it's not at you. It's at this training provider!! Shocking.

I don't usually recommend home learn courses but they do have a place and are all that some people can do under difficult circumstances. As long as the learner understands that it is just a start and plenty of REAL training must follow with real people and a teacher present. Essential Nails are one such course with lots of threads on here.

If you can spend the price of those courses, I'm sure you can find a very good one locally. There will probably be some recommendations from people on here. I hope so.

Good luck

Nail Technician Course (NCFE) - Nail courses - Open Study College

Whilst the theory looks comprehensive on that first course, there is still the issue that you are trying to learn a hands on skill via a dvd. Doing nails is not easy and without having someone looking over your shoulder and critiquing what you do and how you do it I fail to see how you can learn and improve.

I have no idea how recognised the qualification is, but I would not employ someone who learnt from home nor would I go as a client. Classroom training with one of the big companies like CND is the best way to go. I guarantee if you try this home learn course you will pay again for classroom training afterwards. Best bet is to do it the right way from the start.

Call Sweet Squared on 0845 210 6060 and they will tell you where the nearest training academy for CND is to you.

Thank you thats really helpful :)

this may be a really silly question but is it 5 days in a row for the course or once a week/month or something?

Day 1,2 and 3 run consecutively. Day 4 is two weeks later and day 5 two weeks after that.

I've just finished my day 3!! Did my first full set in class and they were awful! :o

I have to practise on at least 5 people by day 4, I'm doing my friend later today..... practise, practise, practise...

If you ring Sweet Squared the UK home of CND on 08452106060 they will explain everything to you. The CND schools are independently operated and some arrange courses differently so get the correct info from S2. Good luck. Your trainer in Kent is superb.
