Hmmm.... I'm confused.

I am starting to offer gel permanent polish in the salon - colours and french as NNO. Now it's been ages since I did gel, but I do remember what I learnt.
So I was browsing the nsi website, getting excited about what colours to pick and I stumbled across their 'Step-by-steps' page.

For the permanent french polish, they say, prep the nail (yes, fine), apply builder coat to nail (ok), cure (yep), then remove tacky layer with cleanse before painting on white tip (eh? Now hold on a sec.....). Next, paint on white, cure and then WITHOUT removing the tacky layer, apply finish clear, cure and then cleanse.??
They also say for the permanent colour service, to apply builder layer, 2 coats colour, THEN cleanse tacky layer and apply finish clear.:irked:

Now I was always taught that gel did not stick to shiny surfaces, so you either apply it to a dull, buffed surface, or on top of the tacky layer.
ARe they just leaving out the buffing steps or is this service done a different way?
What steps do you do for your permanent french or colour?

Hi Tasha, if you have any queries it is best to get the details from the "horses mouth" and contact your NSI educator/distributor.

Personally I shape and remove shine before I apply the brush on white, I do not remove the inhibition layer of the white before incasing/finishing the enhancement.

Re permanent colour, yes I remove the inhibition layer, why??? because you will get colour transfer onto your brush when you use your finishing coat - this is very noticeable with the more pigmented colours.

Hope this helps

I also remove the inhibition layer prior to applying the brush on white. It stops the white from bleeding and creates a much crisper smile line.

I would also advise you to contact NSI, they are very helpful.

They also have a couple of DVD's that may help you refresh your knowledge. These DVD's have been sent out free of charge in the past.

I hope this helps you.

Hi,

Sorry about the confussion, you will find that a lot of the time it will be through preference and down to which product you are using.

The way that I would do an Overlay using Balance UV Gel would be:
1. Prep your natural nail as usual and apply Balance Bond Primer
2. Apply a coat of Balance Builder Gel to the entire nail
3. Cure in a one Hand lamp for 90 seconds and then remove the tacky layer (with a lot of the older gels they did not stick to a smooth surface but the Balance Gels have advanced so that the gel does adhere to the base without it needing to be buffed or tacky)
4. Create my smile line using Brush On French White
5. DONT remove the tacky layer from the white gel, the reason for this is a white gel is basically a colour gel and when you wipe away the tacky layer it can remove the colour pigment in the gel (think of it like painting a set of nails with polish and then wiping over it with polish remover).
6. Now this step is optional but I personally would apply another layer of Builder Gel just to add mere strength to the nail and again you dont need to wipe away the tacky layer
7. I would then finish with a layer of Finish Clear , cure and wipe away the tacky layer.

Hope that this helps
