Hi Fello geeks, Im still fairly new and was wanting some advice. I have a dark skinned client who wishes to have french tips done. She doesnt want the white (being dark skinned it looks too stark ) she is fond of a nail polish colour I have.

My question being.... Can I paint the tips with nail polish then cover with clear acrylic other than just paint the colour over acrylic or will this cause seperation ??

Thanks for your advice and have a great day

Personally, after applying L&P, I would paint the free edge with polish then use a good top coat or a UV cured top coat. HTH! :)

ditto i would just apply the tip paint then cover with a good top coat

Hi Nat

nail polish needs 12 hours for full cure - this is done by the solvents evaporating out of the formula, leaving behind the pigment and resin.

If you apply l&p over the top, you will stop the polish having a chance to cure, Plus your l&p is then only as strong as the bond the polish has on the natural nail...
The same can also happen with UV top coats, so be aware of this, the only real success I have seen using a UV top coat is when the polish is almost completely cured, again, this is many hours after applying...

I would suggest if you are planning to experiment, don't do it on the client, rather try some ideas out in advance.

In the mean time, I would suggest using a soft white, this can be toned down more for a really natural look with a tiny amount of yellow/ brown. This might be a great option the client doesn't even know about... Then she can always have the polish over the top.

hth's

i make a soft white with 3 parts natural and 1 part white powder mixed together. the addition of a tiny dot of yellow can soften it even further.

thanks so much all for your help and advice xx
