I have just been readimg through some threads on patch testing for lash extensions and how important it is that you patch test befor using adhesive on the eyes.
However when i did my training i had to bring a model along she hadn't been patch tested? Is that not contradicting what your being tought?:wink2:

I think you should contact your insurance company on this one.

Some lash companies teach to patch test, others not.

The theory behind not needing a patch test with semi-permanent lash extensions is that the glue is not touching the skin, so therefore a patch test is not necessary.

I don't know if all insurance companies agree with this, you need to find out where your insurance company stands with it so you know if you need to patch test or not.

:cool:well i definitely do patch test and would do even if my insurance said i didn't have to as i value the eyes too much not to take a few mins to do one!

As with everything use common sense with regards to patch testing your client. If you have a client that has had extensions before and has never reacted the chance of a reaction to the products you are using are relative low (depending on the products of course!)

However if you have someone with oversensitive skin then a patch test makes sense to avoid applying the extensions and having to remove them if a reaction occurs.

I agree that the adhesive should never touch the skin, however a person that is allergic to cats doesnt need to touch a cat to start sneezing or flaring up!

Check with your insurance, your trainer and product provider what they recommend.....I know we have been able to agree with the lab and our insurance that a patch test can be done by applying a bit of adhesive to a few lashes at least 24 hrs before the appointment, but if you have a client that is oversensitive or has reacted to any of these products before i would also apply some primer, remover and sealant to a few lashes just to be on the safe side!

Yes my origional post was to say that we are all tought to do patch tests but when i went on my training course my trainers didnt patch test my model!! get it?

I wasnt taught to patch test as it doesn touch the skin, but my friend had a new client and 36 hours later she had a allergic reation to the glue and is now trying to sue!

How did she know the reaction was to the glue? And how did the allergy show? I've had a client who came to me from another tech and asked me to remove them as she got an allergy to the glue - when I looked closely - the irritation was actually caused from few eyelashes poking into her eyelid - I removed them and she was fine (regular since then)... Also on my client consultation form (from Lash Perfect) client has to sign the statement which says " I understand that eyelashes are done without the need of patch test as the glue is not touching the skin" and then client signs (or rarely demands a patch test), if client signs - she cannot sue... Didn't your friend do consultation card and ask to sign? Sorry just curious.

Spot on, many were never trained to patch test and it was not part of the insurance approved syllabus
