Hi geeks. My partner & I are looking to set a date for our wedding which is probably going to be in April 2015. So I was wondering how far in advance you started planning your wedding?

How early or late did you book the church/venue etc? Also what about the dress shopping? (now I've lost my baby weight almost I really want to go dress shopping ha ha)

Ohh I'm so jealous I desperately want to get married lol!!
I've already started planning my wedding an on not even engaged yet lol!!
My friend got married 6 months after she got engaged an has always regreted getting married that quickly as she said she would of done it all completely different! So I don't think it's ever to early to start planning as you have time to change your mind on things an save as much money as you want so you can have it exactly how you want it!
Xxxx

I'm getting married in 8 weeks!! My partner proposed in march last year and I booked the venue in april (laat year) for November 2012. I then saw a dress I loved and as I wasn't planning on losing or gaining any weight I got it in April (last year)!! I then found out I was pregnant at the end of may last year!! Luckily i lost all my weight after I had my little girl in feb this year and can now fit back into my dress!! Xxx

Meggylou thats so lucky! haha :) perfect timing. OP, I'd definitely say the earlier the better, just leaves more time for perfecting the little details & making sure EVERYTHING is how you want it, also less last minute stress!

Seriously, the earlier the better.
Places get booked so quickly.

We're getting married in June 2013 and only booked it last month!

Found my dress thank goodness, but they can take up to 9 months to order so definitely find it early!

Starting to feel a bit rushed on everything else at the moment!

I'm getting married end of July next year.

Church and reception venue are booked but thats about it!

The wedding fund is low, if not non existant but its a work in progress haha

I had about 3 months between getting engaged and married.

I still had a chapel and a big party afterwards.

Its just the way my culture does it.

I'm getting married on the 18th of this month :)

We got engaged last Easter we did decide April 2013 but then 2 months ago decide to have a small wedding with only family so brought it forward plus I wanted to get married before our 2nd baby is born in November.

So I've managed to do everything in 2 months :) x

Thank you everyone. We got engaged in december when I was pregnant with our second baby who is now 6 weeks old & first is 22 months old. We've also moved house (the same week baby arrived) so its been manic but I've been thinking I would like to set a date now.

We do plan on having a third baby all being well before we get married so I think 2015 would fit perfect. Good luck to you all that have yours booked etc. x

We got engaged on 15th march 2010, booked our venue April 2010 and got married 23rd June this year :) when we decided on our venue and went to book the only Saturdays available were 23rd or 30th June this year!!! Book as early as poss for the pick of the lot, you don't want to be stuck taking something because it's all that's available! Good luck xx

I had a surprise proposal in New York at Christmas which was amazing. I then entered bridezilla mode a little too early and now I'm at the overwhelmed stage. Although, thankfully, practically everything is now booked and ordered and we actually get married May 2013 - I can't wait! :green:

Congrats

I had about 16 months to arrange my wedding in and I think most important is finding the venue as they get booked up really fast and finding "that" dress, as you def don't want to rush that, try on as many as you can... It's fun and you'll know when to find it.

I'm now sorting out my renewal of wedding vows and have 10 months to do it lol, tho slightly easier as in Dominican Repub, tho hunting for dress will take time lol

Congratulation,

I have just returned from my honeymoon today, I got married 10 days ago and I am gutted it all over.
Me and my partner started arranging our wedding late last year, and to be honest I don't know why people fuss about it all. The hardest thing to deal with are people cancelling last minute ect when you have paid for them. But I really enjoyed arranging everything. As for dress shopping I had 2 as I couldn't decide what to have, haha.

But it's so true what everyone says. The day goes by so quickly so enjoy every minute.

Congrats :)

And agree everyone said to me, make sure you do what you want on the day not what everyone else wants as the day goes way to fast, make sure you enjoy it and wow is that true!

You look FABULOUS!

Wedding dress, venue, dj, band, wedding rings, weddings suits, honeymoon, invitations, MUA & Hairdresser and flowers are all in the bag! Told you I peaked far too early as Bridezilla

Only thing left to do are Bridesmaids and anything else anyone can think of! Any hints and tips appreciated!

I just buggered off to Vegas for my first wedding, I have had a few moments that we were doing the same for wedding no. 2!

If you've got kids coming make them little goody bags of crayons, colouring books etc from the £ shop, really helps to keep them amused at table during meal, favours for tables, for men we did scratch cards, 2 people won £50 lol and also we got someone drawing caractiture (bet I've spelt that wrong) of guests, they loved it and was something for people to take home, oh and cameras on the table and what we did is by entrance to the room we did 2 postboxes coloured to match the decor, one for cards etc and one for one use cameras, so easy to take home by my maid of honor just grab the boxes.

Ok will stop lol, I could go on for ages :)

Thanks everyone. Can I ask whats your plans for the actual day? Are you having a morning or afternoon wedding? How many guests are you having to the sit down meal (if your having one) then reception in evening?

I have no idea what to do especially since I have many family members I would like to leave off the guest list ha ha

We got engaged in Nov 2009 but didn't get married until this June. We didn't start planning until Oct 2011 though. This is when we booked our venue. We then didn't do anything else until Feb-March time. I would have hated planning a wedding years before the event! I must admit though that it wasn't a 'traditional' wedding so we didn't have so many constraints.

Our venue was a beautiful village hall on a loch with village green out the front for the ceremony. Because it wasn't a hotel (so popular up here for weddings) we didn't need to book ages in advance. Also didn't have a white wedding dress so didn't have to go through dress shops and ordering. Just gave my measurements to a specialist medieval tailor and they made it. Easy! Also we did all the decoration ourselves, just hired tableclothes and seat covers. So we didn't have to find/co-ordinate someone to do that for us. Also didn't have a 'wedding' caterer just a local company so they weren't booked up in advance either.

So it depends what you're looking for, if you are going for a popular wedding venue you will need to do these things sooner. They might have a list of 'agreed' suppliers for decor/flowers etc that you need to go through. If you can arrange it all really early I suppose you don't need to worry about it afterwards, but I think I would have worried anyway ^^

We're having all our wedding at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool, there will be approx 65 day guests and approx 200 evening guests. Not really sure of how the day will actually run, but we're getting married at 1pm, think then it's photo's until 2.30pm, poss canapes & champagne at 3pm and wedding breakfast starts approx 4 to 5pm and evening reception to start at 7.30 and a singer will come on about 9ish.

I think that's the drill anyway! :)

Keep all the hints and tips coming though, I need all the help I can get!

Well I picked up brochures for weddings abroad & I've fell in love with the idea of getting married in Lapland next Christmas! If anyone has done this please share your experience :)
