Hello everyone!

Not posted but on this site for a while but need some advice. About 2 weeks ago i applied a set of acrylic nails to a friend of my mums, and after 2 weeks in the sun, they have fell off! I am newly qualified and not that confident so i may be doing something wrong.

Firstly, she is a nail biter, in a big,big way and she has very soft and VERY small nail beds. Her thumb is disfigured and she has a very small nail on that thumb and is very concious of it. I applied the nails and both her and me were very happy at the end. She had just rang me though and said that one by one they have all fell off (except for 4). She says she would like them doing again and i suggested that maybe she should try growing them a bit first and just have manicures to make them grow healthy and strong but she just wants them doing again.

What do you think? please give me some advice as to what you would do or what i am doing wrong.

Thanks, Lisa x

You may not be doing anything wrong ... why assume that you are??

Weighing up the evidence it would seem far more likely that the serial biter client has been serial picking, biting or generally not caring for the nails you did while she was away. SHE does not seem to be blaming your work. SHE has asked for another full set. Do it!!

Also, I'm never sure why peeps assume that because a persons nails are small that they are more prone to 'falling off' or lifting. They are not. Just because a nail is small doesn't make it any different to any other nail. Pinkie nails are small and they don't come off.

If you are meaning short nail beds, then short nail beds require short free edges or there will be too much pressure on the short nail plate. If you have made the free edge too long for her nails then that could have contributed to them breaking ... on the other hand, the client may have wanted them long in which case, you should have advised her against it and why. If she decided not to take your advice re length then her problems are down to her and not you.

It is part of any professional nail techs job to advise on the correct length for each and every client.
