Hello!

Question for you Geeks.

As a business owner when people call me up they always try to compare me with other companies, which is fine by me - but I am expected to know what other people charge and whats included in there price.

When I shop around (as I am looking at the moment for a condenser dryer) I look on price, as a dryer to me is just that.

I don't agree we should all buy on price but its the driving factor and so long as you still get the frills and support then thats key.

So I was wondering........

Do you price compare? or do you think 'oh they have a good reputation so will just pay what they want'?

DO you like to see on websites people comparing themselves against other companies? I don't mean in the sense of calling them as I don't comment on the professionalism or products of other companies as I don't know enough to pass comment nor is it my place!

Does price comparison help you as a customer make a decision or would you rather do your own research?

Finally is it legal??? If I tell people my tans are £20 but the girls round the corner are a tenner but she dosnt for example - use a pre tan spray or tan lock can you state fact!?!

Advise please.

Hi,

I do have my competitors price lists, I wouldn't ever compare myself with another tech to a client or on advertising. I personaly think it looks cheap and desperate! If I am asked by a client why I do x when shop up road does y, I explain the reason I do/use which in its self tells them I must be better! and I don't know why they do Y at other salon.

As for price..I want reliable clients that are looking for value! I find clients that go on price usally will follow special offers! In my experiance they tend to be the ones that are late, cancel or no show too and tbh I just can't be bothered with them! :)

I would not price compare either. Of course it is good to know the local prices but you could find yourself in a pickle. Advertising that salon x does not use this or that - you have to be sure they don't - they may change what they use. I would rather extol the virtues of what you yourself offer and how thorough and professional the service is. It reminds me of Asda - and how much cheaper they are than Tesco etc - Does not stop Tesco making a bomb!!!!
