I was just looking at the Professional Beauty website and noticed that you can register as a guest or even a beauty fan!
I am very peed off about this. It's bad enough that we know the odd few non pros get in but for PB to actively encourage non pros to attend a professional show, is quite frankly disgusting.
I am so mad about this.
What are your thoughts?

I agree. I think the name '''Professional Beauty'' says it all.

Ridiculous...

makes a mockery of the industry as a whole .

if I didnt love what I do - I would seriously be looking for a new career.

What a shame! Sounds just like a girls day out event 😔

It really annoys me that say two non professionals could go together. However, I am going to the Pro Scottish Beauty Show in April and I am taking my mum who is not beauty trained, She has helped me greatly with the training I have received and helps me make wise decisions regarding my career in beauty. She is there purely for helping me make choices, not buying to use at home. Last time i went i spent a fortune on all the wrong stuff, It did nothing for my business, So having my mammy there with me will help me not spend so much money on things i think i need. :)

Oh this is annoying!
I was happy this year as I noticed they have changed the entrance fee to £30 as oppose to the £5 that it was in previous years for people to just walk up to. Now that they are promoting to beauty fans is annoying! Soon the beauty industry will go out of business because of this actual problem. Too many DIYers about nowadays! And the figure will only grow.
Whats a shame is the companies no longer care about the therapist they just care about the money which is why they allow any old person in! x

As a stand holder I was perturbed by this so I contacted our PB account manager who put me through to the marketing team.
I was told that PB are very aware that non pros try to sneak in and that by having a "beauty fan" registration they can actually monitor them. Apparently they will refuse entry to the general public, but they will allow entry to people who are about to enter the industry.
They said it was all but impossible to monitor because there are no regulations in the industry. I suggested that they might want to ask for people's insurance details and she said that not everyone has insurance. Well, perhaps this might help to discourage the non insured, I said!
As for students I think they could have a tutor register themselves and add the students' names to their details.

I thought Professional Beauty had learnt its lesson from previous years, when the show went downhill and many of us stopped attending?
A few years ago, I actually had a very cheeky Client ask me to do a prescription, as she was attending the show with her Step Daughter (who was a hairdressing student) and was intending to buy the products at the show.
I believed PB was aiming back at the professional market only - hence attracting leading skin care brands again. These suppliers will not pay the huge costs in future if the exhibition lets in the general public, who waste their time, purchasing a few discounted items and trade buyers stop attending.
Really cross. Not only are we having to deal with discounted online sales, now Clients can stock up at trade price for the afternoon!:irked:

you all could boycott the show and email them telling them why.

Please don't! Not just yet, anyway!
We've spent so much money to be at the show and it would be such a shame if nobody turned up.

Instead of a boycott, what about an organised petition?

I think the reasons they gave you Lynne are ridiculous - if non pros are going in anyway, how does them tracking their numbers reduce their attendance in any way? Surely by giving them the green light to attend then PB are only encouraging them!!

I don't think I explained that awfully well!
If people register as "beauty fan" they won't be granted a ticket if they're purely a member of the public. If they're a blogger, or a shop owner specialising in beauty stuff then they'll get a ticket.

O God Lynne sorry I know the stands cost a small fortune....

It's very greedy of them I think they are just hoping to get more punters in at whatever cost to the rest of us.

Pure's idea is very good.

I can understand people being annoyed about it but just bear in mind that even if they buy things on the day, they won't be able to purchase again unless they provide their certificates/insurance. Also, it's rammed! You'd have to be a pretty darned dedicated beauty fan to stand in those queues!also, the badges actually state what your status is so savvy stand holders will be able to see at a glance if someone has registered as a Beauty Fan and make their own decision whether to sell or not :)

Personally as someone who spends a small fortune on products and equipment, I did boycott for a few years.
Got fed up queuing to try and speak to the Representatives on the stands to actually purchase, whilst the poor things were tied up with the general public!
Personally, I would be fuming. Spending a lot of money on a stand to be spending time and energy selling one-offs to the general public and possibly missing a trade enquiry, because they cannot get near the stand.

On our stand we have our brilliant Ops Manager Fran filtering out "unwanted" visitors. By unwanted I mean the general public and students who are looking for freebies (as opposed to students looking to buy into our brands).
If they get past her they will be directed to either one of our 3 brand experts, or me. If they're serious about opening an account with us they'll be invited to give their details to our Ops Director.
We're hoping that this method will help to maintain some kind of order!
We'll happily give an info sheet and/or a sweetie to students though; we'd like them to think kindly of us when it comes to them opening a salon!

The show they ran in October in Dublin was annoying because they allowed buggies in .....the aisles are narrow and it is hard enough to negotiate without flamin' buggies...
and before I start a row here, I have 4 kids myself but TRADE SHOW is not a place to bring children..
that would put me off going to PB event again

Wish all the suppliers were as sensible as you, putting filters in place.
I do appreciate students are the customers of the future - we were all one once, but as a serious purchaser, it would be wonderful to get to speak to all the companies that I am interested in on the day.
I usually find, I have to give up some of the suppliers, due to the crowds and try and contact them after the show.
I get stuck with the more obscure hair clip or handbags sellers lol!

They don't let children in anymore. I wish they would ban those damn trolleys everyone takes too.
They should have lockers so that people can put stuff in there. Those trolleys drive me beresk!
They should also do a student only day.

This I definately agree with.
A seperate Student Day, no trolleys but definately lockers - my arms ache like mad by the end of the day carrying all my purchases!!

Hope I don't offend anyone here but you know where all the general shoppers and non serious people attending are because they seem to be crowding around the same sort of stands-certain spray tan brands, jewellery and amazing lash thickening mascaras etc. !!
